When a guide to an Olympus camera has a forward written by the President of Olympus America, there's more than a chance it's a guide worth owning. I've only had this book for a couple of days, but already I've read it more than pretty much every other camera book I've ever bought.
This is partly as the OM-D E-M5ii has a complicated user interface, but it's also testament to the usefulness of the book. The thing I really appreciate about this book is how it is clearly written by an enthusiastric photographer with enthusiastic photographers in mind. The printing is clear and high quality-paper is used, not the fragile rough "paperback" paper that is being used increasingly in budget reference books. Also appreciate is the fact that there's no fat in this book to be skimmed through, no tedious mini-autobiography from the author shoe-horned into the opening chapter. After some very detailed control location reference pages, page 9 appears.

Page 9 is a key page in the book, as it lists the most critical functions for immediate configuration, and encourages you to work your way down the list, jumping to the relevant part of the book to be taught about the effect and setting each function so you can then set it as you feel appropriate. This function index page works excellently and allowed me to quickly set up the basics for my camera before I'd got halfway down. (For example the default JPEG compression setting is "fine", not "super-fine" as I wanted. Try finding that setting without a guide!)
I can't oversell this function index as a positive feature of the book, it transforms the usefulness of the book and transforms what could have been a detail-heavy nightmare of a book into what can best be described as a book with Google built in.

This is an excellent book. If you have spent £1000+ on a (highly complex) camera and lens then for the price of this book you will get better use and more pleasure from them. The book is detailed and easy to follow.
I was surprised, being used to a variety of cameras, how much extra this book revealed. From the outset it recommends settings for the basics so that you can use it with confidence. It goes on to cover more detail and settings, all with explanations and recommendations. I could have "played" with the camera for months and not uncovered some of the features that are revealed by this book. I suspect that even what I could have found for myself would have been part forgotten in time whereas having this book also serves as a reference point.

This is the missing manual with the Mk2. You will be lost in space without this book !. superbly logically put together with authors personal settings included with an explanation why. Possibly the best technical guide book i have ever bought.

This book is absolutely essential if you are a first-time user of the new Olympus OM-D EM5 Mark II or have upgraded from a different make of camera. At over 500 pages it is much more useful than the Olympus manual. The camera is not-so-intuitive and has some weird and wonderful settings that are buried deep in its guts, thus finding them would take frustratingly long without this book. The camera needs to be initially configured before use and on page 9 there is a list of 30 functions that are the most critical and will get you started without wasting time. The book has 7 chapters - Camera Setup and Control Reference, Screen Displays for Camera Control, Shooting Menu 1, Shooting Menu 2, Playback Menu, Custom Menu, Setup Menu and also an Appendix and an Index. There are clear colour pictures illustrating every mentioned setting and the author's recommendation on which setting to use. The book weighs 850 grams which makes it an added weight in my camera rucksack, but until I am more familiar with all the functions of my new camera, I will need to cart this book around with me. Alternatively, spend a good few days studying it before you go on holiday!

Haven't even got half way with this yet but it is a MUST BUY for EM5 Mark 2 users. Blows the supplied manual out of the water. Its no slimline either - theres 500 pages of info in this book which will help you master the fiendishly extensive Olympus menu system. If you can afford £750 for the EM5 camera you need to factor this book in too. Its a god send.

This is a brilliant book! I wasn't really expecting so much detail and advise but I'm really glad I bought it and I'll recommend it to anyone who owns or is about to purchased an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark 2. It'll get you off to the correct start and settings and you'll be referring back to it for months to come.

After many years using another brand, the Olympus camera comes as a bit of a shock. This is because, very little is dedicated and labelled; you have the choice to make the buttons and dials do whatever you want them to do. This took several weeks, until I found this book, which is great for diving into and finding out how to set up the buttons and wheels as you like it to work, and suits your hands. A really good book that helps you master the camera.

Only 1/3rd of the way in so far but the in-depth descriptions (often repetative) and cross-referencing where necessary are second to none. Because of this any feature of the complex menu structure can be easily accessed and adjusted as found fit. It's generally acknowledged that this can be a complex camera but this guide certainly demystifies its workings.
