This book provides a true insight into William Bennett's approach to the flute, emphasizing the importance of playing with an expressive tone, intelligent phrasing and excellent intonation. A well thought out book which includes figures, musical examples and exercises for every new idea presented to the reader. I would highly recommend it to any flute player (or Wibbling!).
I was very excited to get my hands on a copy of Rod’s new book ‘Mastering the Flute with William Bennett’ and finally have it! Having visited Wibb’s flute summer school for many years I always regret not taking more notes and was delighted to discover that the exercises within this Rod has compiled and explained very thoughtfully and eloquently are Wibb’s inspired methods and secrets!
Thanks ever so much for the incredible effort you must have put into this indispensable resource.
It now has pride of place in my teaching arsenal alongside my Moyse and T/G dailies.
A must read for any flute player. A wonderful book for improving sound. Gives a clear explanation on tone, intonation, articulation, harmonics, phrasing, etc., and how they all relate to the interpretation of music, as a whole. I was impressed with the inclusion of musical examples and specific exercises in the book, providing insight into William Bennett's approach to the flute, just as I remember WIBB teaching it. A very well thought out book, that I would highly recommend.
This is a great book - it has detailed descriptions of embouchure, air speed, pitch control and the general 'blowing' side of things. Also, some tips on phrasing and musical shaping. I'm so glad to have discovered it, there is a lot of information here and I think it will serve me well over time.
I was given this as a gift by a violin playing friend, having asked for it ! This is a 'Must Read and Do the Exercises' book for any flautist/flutist wishing to control their tone production properly. Mr. Seed is a brilliant player himself, and here he proves that he has the gift of giving the student ( and anyone else) an extremely clear explanation of how tone production, harmonics, articulation and intonation relate to musical phrasing and interpretation as I have seen and heard from the great William Bennett myself many times. As well as specific exercises there are also fingering charts for special fingerings in the top register and for harmonics in the second register (sensitive fingerings) with some musical examples from the repertoire showing their application. Highly recommended !
