Mastered by the Mavericks is a passionate ménage romance spiced up with some BDSM and an exciting suspense storyline. This is book eight in the W.I.L.D Boys of Special Forces series, and although the blurb states that it works as a standalone I would recommend reading the other books first. I had read one of the previous book (book seven) but I still found the first part of this book very confusing. I spent the first thirty percent of the book feeling totally lost as it dealt with events from previous books. But once the romance part of the storyline really got going I couldn't put the book down.

When Brynna's best friend is kidnapped by a deranged lunatic, she is determined to take part in the rescue mission. This is how she finds herself holed up in the Texas wilderness with two Special Forces bad boys, Rhett and Rebel. She's been hurt in the past by dominant servicemen, so she's keen to avoid falling for the same type of man again. But the chemistry between all three of them proves difficult to resist. Can they rescue rescue Zoe and manage to keep their hearts intact?

I really liked all three main characters, especially the two guys. Rebel and Rhett both had distinct personalities and character traits, which made it easy to get to know them and tell them apart - in some ménage books I find that the guys are so similar they almost blend into one person. The relationship between Rebel and Rhett was really interesting and was the highlight of the book for me. The ménage scenes were very, very hot and great fun to read. Overall this was an entertaining story that receives four out of five stars.

I really loved the blend of military romantic suspense and erotic BDSM romance in Mastered by the Mavericks. I haven’t read the previous books in the series but after this one I’m thinking I definitely need to pick them up. While Mastered by the Mavericks hinted at events from previous books in the series it merely whetted the appetite for more. I in no way felt like I had missed crucial details necessary to this particular story.

When the story begins you get really fast just how close-knit this group is and just how hard it is for them to watch their brother in arms devastated and torn apart at the kidnapping of his pregnant wife by a mad scientist determined to breed the ultimate soldier. But it’s not just the men that are feeling the need to step up and rescue her. After all, Zoe is Brynna and El’s best friend and they’d do anything to ensure she comes home safe. Hearing that the enemy has a thing for redheads starts the wheels turning for a willowy redheaded, Brynn. So while she’s all for jumping on the bait bandwagon, her ideas aren’t exactly met with enthusiasm from Rebel and he’s fighting a losing battle in his argument. And his partner, Rhett isn’t exactly backing him up. About the time, Brynn lays him out flat three times it’s time to end the discussion.

Brynn with her degree in criminal psychology isn’t quite the picture she presents as a dancer. She’s also not sure what she got herself into with the two special forces sergeants that totally trip her trigger. While all of her friends seem to have settled into the whole BDSM lifestyle, Brynn wants nothing to do with walking that path in life. A little rough sex is one thing, but she’s seen just how devastating losing yourself in the submissive role can be to a person’s psyche and she’s not going there.

HASH(0x9d6f1fcc) out of 5 stars Incredible read... may be the best of the series! 7 Jan. 2016
By Crystal B. - Published on Amazon.com

I have been so lucky to read the entire WILD Boys series. I fell in love with Garrett and with each book the boys took more and more of my heart - right along with their creator Angel Payne. Each story has only made the series stronger. The men have only gotten sexier and the women that love and ultimately tame them have only gotten more fantastic. With Mastered By The Mavericks, Rhett, Rebel and Brynna's delicious triangle reinterates why this series is so divine.

The WILD Boys are on a mission to save one of their own - a very pregnant Zoe who has been kidnapped by a deranged scientist determined to use her baby to breed a new line of super soliders. Her husband Shay understands more than anyone the agony that his wife will suffer if she isn't found and rescued and he will do whatever it takes to save her. To that end, R&R must do what they don't want to do - team up with Zoe's best friend Brynna to track her down and save her before it's too late. Brynna has sworn off men - all of them after her relationship with another WILD Boy Dan Colton dies a painful death. She's determined to be nothing like her sister and friends and let a man - a dominant - change her life for the worst. But the attraction she feels toward these two cannot be denied. Something else that cannot denied? Rhett and Rebel, long time friends and inseparable partners in the field, are more than friends but are afraid to face what is going on between them.

The story is fast paced, suspenseful and angsty. The chemistry and sexy times between Rhett, Rebel and Brynna... wow. Incredible and scorching hot. The Special Ops team face certain danger. Is Zoe going to survive? Will new revelations change Rhett and Rebel's relationship? Does Brynna have the courage to face her own demons? Angel has written one amazing story that will have you turning those steamy pages to the very end! This may be my favorite of the series. Sorry, Garrett.

HASH(0x9d6fd2d0) out of 5 stars 5 "Unique and Incredible Warrior Sex" Stars 5 Jan. 2016

This book was gifted and received in exchange for an Honest Review.

I adored this book!!! At only 8% in, this book was killing me. The sex scenes were off the charts with some menage which I normally don't normally run after, but man did Ms. Payne make it work for me! The suspense had my heart in my throat for most of the book. I don’t think I even took a normal breath during the last 3 reading hours. I have not read any of the previous books in this series and couldn't imagine if I would've had "stake" in the series from the beginning by knowing Shay & Zoe. I will be rectifying that mistake at my earliest convenience.

This book opens up with a scene where our heroine Brynne’s best friend has been kidnapped. We are introduced to all the gang while they are figuring out what happened & how best to proceed. My heart broke for Shay and all his buddies. We learn that Brynne has a weakness for dominate military warriors (Don’t we all!), however, chooses to abstain because of past experiences. Rebel Stafford (her pirate) with his call sign “Moon or Moonstormer & Rhett Lange (her viking) call sign “Double Oh” become our delicious heroes. These 3 end up on an op to get intel in Austin. That’s when things get really tricky for Brynne. I couldn’t pick between the guys, so how could I expect her to choose?

Mastered by the Mavericks had everything I would want. It was a very suspenseful read, off the charts sexy, hilarious quotes, romance and so much more. With alternating POV’s, this book is complete novel which is book #8 of the WILD series. It can be read as a standalone as each book is about a different couple. Before this book was 1/4 over I’d already bought all 7 other books, that’s right this book was worth purchasing 7 more books. I had previously read books in a series co-written by Angela Payne and loved them also.

HASH(0x9dc9c06c) out of 5 stars I liked that unlike some of the other books I have ... 28 Dec. 2015
By Heather123 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I have not yet read any other books in this series or anything by this author before picking up this book. I say yet, because after reading this book I'm very interested in reading the other books in this series. Not reading the other books did not take anything away from me reading this book however I do think knowing more of the backstories with some of the other characters likely would have helped. You feel from almost the first page of the book how tight this group is. Everyone dropped everything to be by the side of one of their brothers as he was experiencing the unthinkable.

I liked that unlike some of the other books I have read that focus on threesomes, this story wasn't about two men who are used to sharing a woman together. Instead this was about all three characters experiencing something for the first time together. I liked how the relationship just wasn't focused on Brynna; that the author instead also took the time to develop the relationship between Rhett and Rebel.

I have no complaints about this book, only things I would have liked to see. I would have liked to know how the other members of the team reacted to Rhett & Rebel's relationship with each other. I would have liked the book to continue instead of ending where it did; I think it would have been interesting to see how the three made this relationship work especially considering the men's careers. I don't think enough time was devoted to Brynna's sister and her relationship with Brynna. It would have been interesting to read if Brynna told her about her new relationship and how she reacted to that (if she was able to react?).

Incredibly hot book, filled with suspense to keep the reader interested.

HASH(0x9d7006cc) out of 5 stars Double the Heroes an exponential amount of sexual adventure - Code Red!!! 11 Dec. 2015
By Lightning City Book Reviews - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Double the Heroes an exponential amount of sexual adventure and heat factor - Code Red!!! This is the latest novel in The WILD boys of Special Forces series by Angel Payne. "Mastered by the Mavericks" brings back many of the past characters from The WILD boys of Special Forces series. The heroine in this novel is Brynna, the ex-girlfriend of the hero from the previous book of the series, but in this installment she has caught the notice of the bomb specialist Rebel and the Tech Specialist Rhett. Everyone finds themselves in a high stress situation and need to work together for the safety of one of their own. The group of soldiers and some of the women in the group decide it's in their best interest to work together - a challenge for some people that are used to working with only a dedicated partner with whom they have a rapport. However Brynna brings up some valid points about why she should accompany Rebel and Rhett to Texas for their surveillance assignment. The trio is sequestered together, alone, in close quarters for a few stressful days. There is a bit of tension as the friends vie for Brynna's affection however when she admits that she's attracted to both men and can't deny that she has feelings for them as well. The best friends decided that they rather than jeopardize their friendship, sharing their affections for her is actually a solution that can save their close bond. Rhett and Rebel are no strangers to the BDSM lifestyle and are both Doms however Brynna is not submissive and refuses to be. All three of the characters experience growth because of an integral need for Trust, especially due to the nature of their mission. Angel Payne provides the reader with yet another novel jam packed with titillating and erotic sex scenes that are sure to threaten your e-reader with spontaneous combustion.
We know Angel Payne can write Erotic, but I think "Mastered by the Mavericks" might be the most suspenseful, thrilling, and tear-jerking novel of the series. At least that I've read. The relationship between Rebel and Rhett is extremely complex from their jealousy over Brynna to the development of their friendship in the face of this intense life threatening relationship. There is character growth all over the place. My big complaint is that most of the Points of View are from Rebel and Brynna. Rhett gets to tell his viewpoint in a few chapters but the majority of the chapters belong to Rebel and Brynna. I think there was a lot that Rhett could have added to rich tapestry that made up this novel. Ms Payne also gives us an exceptionally "Feel Good" ending.

HASH(0x9d70087c) out of 5 stars Flying fear free in the arms of love 1 Dec. 2015
By Jean Smith - Published on Amazon.com

Brynn is dealing with some very valid fear issues and just a few trust issues. That doesn’t stop her from totally melting in both Rebel and Rhett’s arms in turn, setting off fits of pique and jealousy between two best friends. Two best friends who just happen to be skating the edge of desire for each other and avoiding the two-ton elephant sitting squarely between them.

That is until the two decide to turn their joint attentions to taming a redhead in their downtime. Funny how loosening up and claiming Brynn brings Rebel and Rhett’s feeling for each other to the surface as well. So while this could have been a story all about Brynn coming to terms with her fears and submissiveness it becomes so much more as Rebel and Rhett come to terms with their feelings for each other as well. These two are packing their own sets of luggage when it comes to issues. Rebel and his rough cajun upbringing is the team’s explosive expert. Rhett on the other hand, is the team’s intel specialist and the product of a transatlantic divorce where he was shuffled from continent to continent as a child. One of them has always had a devil may care, love em and leave em attitude and the other would love nothing better than to find the one to make him feel complete. Resolving their issues and getting to HEA isn’t cut and dried either. There is also the little issue of rescuing Zoe.

Things, of course, get a bit sticky along the way and the suspense is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off in the background. I really enjoyed the combination. If I had one issue it was that there were times when I had troubles separating the two men out in a scene. I had to slow down my reading to make sure I was getting just who was doing what. It was very clear if the two were talking but not so much when it was action being narrated. I think part of what caused the issue was their names both starting with R. Sometimes it’s hard to put your finger on exactly what the issue is and sometimes it’s just an attention span issue on my own part. Bottom line, the interactions between Brynn, Rhett and Rebel are explosive. I would definitely recommend Mastered by the Mavericks and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Ms. Payne has a winning series arc here in the WILD Boys of Special Forces.
