I have edited this after discovering some ancient slimy gunk in the space behind the chopping plate.
I looked at a lot of other models when my own similar or identical model finally gave up the ghost after long-term heavy use, but was concerned that the all-plastic ones might not be up to my demands.
When I saw this one, my previous experience prompted me to choose this model again, and I am very glad I did. It is very effective and easy to use, and now has a small plastic extension on the base that may improve function and/or protect the blades better. I rarely use the chopper on anything except onions, so can't vouch for other uses.
I don't use it quite as recommended, so it may well not last as long as it would if I did. Because I chop a lot of veg at a time, and to save time and space, I use it on a plate rather than with the plastic base attached. This is probably why my last one became rather blunt (after quite a long time) although it still worked until it finally fell apart. It would probably be better to use it on a wooden board, but I don't have much worktop space and getting a board out would make it too crowded!
Try a few different techniques if it doesn't chop well at first attempt, e.g. varying the speed and force.
I use an old toothbrush to clean between the blades and also the plastic bit that goes over the blades.
I later used it to chop cabbage, carrot and nuts as well - very effective. I am also now being sensible and using the plastic base!
WARNING - I have stopped using this chopper after finding a piece of black gunk in my washing-up water. I discovered to my horror that there were multiple pieces of such gunk in the space behind the chopping plate, and realised that this must have been contaminating my food for a long time. I spent some time trying to clean it all out, which required me to compress the spring while trying to avoid cutting myself on the blades and trying to scrub the bottom of the rear space with a toothbrush. It seems impossible to get it all out. Luckily I have a very strong immune system, but I am not going to use it again.
Made some coleslaw with a simple knife yesterday, and all-in-all I think it's quicker! I have an electric grinder I can use for nuts and seeds, and this is easy to clean.
