Product Description

Product Description

Infuse your dishes with the intense, aromatic flavours of herbs and spices. The Master Class Large Marble Pestle and Mortar Set is designed to be simple and comfortable to use, so it’s easy to improve your cooking and get the most out of your favourite ingredients.

It’s made of strong, durable marble, with a large design that looks impressive in any kitchen. It’s great for making flavour pastes, pestos and dips, or simply to grind ingredients for everyday cooking.

Textured Bowl and Comfort-Shaped Pestle

This set includes a 20 x 12 cm (8” x 4½”) mortar bowl crafted from high-quality quarry marble. With its coarse interior, it’s quick and easy to grind even the toughest whole spices. The mortar’s width helps prevent your herbs, spices or pastes spilling onto your worktops.

There’s also a large pestle, which is shaped to fit perfectly in your hand. This reduces the strain on your hand as you crush, and helps you maintain a tight, secure grip.

Durable Marble Design

The mortar and pestle are crafted from the highest quality quarry marble, a material that’s prized by professional chefs for its natural strength and durability. Its heavyweight construction means its less likely to slip during use, and cleaning up is really easy too.

Beautiful Design – Makes a Lovely Gift

As stunning as it is practical, this quarry marble pestle and mortar set is a great piece to have on display in your kitchen. It’s the ideal gift idea for the foodie in your life!

Master Class has also created a gorgeous marble rolling pin, which goes beautifully with this pestle and mortar. To find it, search product code MCGRANRP.

My review of this mortar and pestle, which I purchased in April 2012 from Amazon. It looks great and both the mortar and pestle are nicely weighted and the pestle feels fantastic in the hand. However my experience with this mortar and pestle has been tainted by quality concerns. See video for details.

So far I've had two of these mortar and pestles shipped to me by Amazon and both came with the pestle broken in half. They were both delivered by different companies (royal mail vs DPD) so it doesn't seem to have been mishandled in delivery. I can only put it down to a really poor quality product. I think it may be because the pestle is half granite half stone and the stone half is flawed or very weak. Do no be tempted by the so called largeness of this item, its not all that big and certainly not worth the money when you consider the pestle may not last all that long if it survives delivery at all.

Choose another.

I only used this about 8 times, and it just split in half whilst attempting to crush a few coriander and fennel seeds - It was a gift, so I cannot return it anywhere which is annoying, and I see another review (video) by A. Shillingford shows exactly the same as happened to me. There is definitely a manufacturing fault in this item, so I would NOT recommend it at the moment!!

I read all the reviews before buying this for my husband's Christmas and noted those which described the bowl breaking in two. 'That won't happen to us', I thought. But it did - and on the second or third use! So, sorry - but I would not recommend this. Pity, because the angled bowl is brilliant.

Like other people. This broke within 2 months of purchase. Cracked right down the middle when using it for making a guacamole. Nothing strenuous. Demonstrates you get what you oak for.

It's shape was a surprise, it has uneven height, higher in the back, lower in front but it's good as it makes work easier. Good quality. And free delivery!

I thought it was smaller, but when it arrived I was a bit surprised.
It is heavy and big, but seems it can handle a lot of work.
Stone finishing looks a bit rough, and gives impression that it could break easily.
Maybe it is true.
I suggest don’t drop it or hit it.
Do not buy if you plan to use it rarely.

The pestle and mortar arrived within the stated delivery period, and was packed well in a large box with other material for extra protection during transit. Unfortunately when I opened the smaller box inside which contained the pestle and mortar, I found that the mortar was completely smashed. There was no damage to either of the boxes that contained the pestle and mortar-which is made of strong marble-so it is a bit of a mystery how it got smashed. I returned it as soon as I could and I have recieved a full refund.
