"I have to go" was always Commander Shepard's way of saying goodbye and coming back. However, with the recent announcement of Shepard not appearing in any way shape or form in the next Mass Effect, he said his last motto in this one.

Playing Mass effect 1 & 2 got me pumped for the 3rd journey and here are my impressions;

First off I would like to point out that the ending doesn't bother me and I got really sick and tired of everyone's complaining about it, Bioware did what was best, so just leave it alone now. Anyway, The combat is action-packed and I love it, the characters both old returning characters (depending on your choices) and new characters are a welcome from me. The graphics are very impressive and the voice acting again is really well done. There are plenty of side-quests to do and the main story is a very decent length. I also love the new enemies, a few times I was shocked at seeing the new enemies that Bioware decided to put in, but it is part of the story.

Included in this Collector's editon (no pun intended considering the name of Mass Effect 2's enemies) is an art book with very impressive pictures, a really nice steelbook with Male Shepard (front) and Female Shepard (back), access to DLC "from Ashes" which includes a new character and a return to a familiar location, a comic book, a premium N7 fabric patch, a code for the digital soundtrack, a Mechdog companion (non-mission sadly) that hangs around the cargo bay on the Normandy, various different outfits for your squadmates, an N7 hoodie for Shepard, the Normandy prop for the avatar and various weapons including a shotgun/sniper rifle/SMG and pistol and finally a lithograph with a nice picture.

I'm gonna start by saying I absolutely loved the previous two games (Mass Effect 2 in particular) but this game did nothing but build me up for disappointment in the run up to its release, from the crisis with GAME to the awful rumours surrounding the story. As a huge fan I tried to ignore these rumours but unfortunately they all ended up being true. *SPOILERS* The ending is awful, just plain flat out awful. The three choices are all dissatisfying and all lead to the same situation with the Normandy which crash lands on a planet with no way of getting off. Combine this with the shot of Shepard taking a breath in the wreckage of the Citadel and the whole ending starts stinking of cliffhanger. Which is odd cos this is the last game involving Shepard right? Of course, if this is a cliffhanger then its for downloadable content. Another slap to the face after the Prothean DLC issue. Now if none of this seems to bad too you then chances are you'll still love this game because to be fair I really enjoyed everything else up until the ending but for me this kind of ending just pissed over my entire Mass Effect experience. My only other complaint is Tali and the whole stock pic image of her face, that seems incredibly lazy and disrespectful to the fans. Firstly, don't use a pic we've waited long enough to see a Quarian so let us see one for real and secondly if you are going to use a pic at least make one from scratch and put some effort into it. I'm gonna end this section on a high note cos part of me still thinks Mass Effect deserves it, the gay romance option with Kaidan was done perfectly in my opinion, it was exactly what I hoped for and made me very happy after two games of discrimination. That might be the one and only thing that makes me purchase another Bioware game at this point.Read more ›

Not as good as Mass2 but a fitting end to the trilogy - nicer graphics, tweaked and tightened gameplay and all the space melodrama you could hope for - people complained about the ending, but i felt it a fitting end. Best gaming trilogy to date.

I love Mass Effect from the first game, whole universe, memorable characters from your squad to minor NPC. The first two games was of "feel good" sort beating the odds saving the day and all that, great entertaiment. ME 3 ruined it all with the endings. Its's not a game for the fans of the series, you will be left heartbroken

(I shall leave out my feedback on the infamous ending, as although I would say the same as millions of fans have; horribly written, deceptively unvaried, etc, it only covers close to 1% of the entire game and does not impact my opinion on the game as a whole).

So is this the best Mass Effect game? In terms of gameplay variety and exploration, it's probably the worst. BioWare seems to have a habit of "if someone didn't like it, throw it completely away rather than try to fix it", because the vehicle gameplay is no more, the majority of sidequests consist of singular planet scans in Reaper controlled systems after eavesdropping on the entire Citadel population, with the rest being either on the Citadel itself or the multiplayer maps making their canonical appearance in the Single Player. In terms of gameplay mechanics, they are greatly improved, especially regarding player mobility, control and melee combat, with the exception of the dialogue wheel, which has seen a disappointly noticeable decrease in variety and frequency of appearance. Regarding the new Multiplayer, it works much better than I expected with the massive variety of characters and powers that can be used, but it solely relies on player desire to upgrade their inventory of characters, weapons & equipment and to maximise their Single Player Effective Military Strength (EMS) for replayability. If you liked Gears of War's Horde Mode, it will be quite familiar to you.

But that's my criticisms out of the way. What really shines above all else is the characters.
