About the author

HANNAH FIELDING is a multi-award winning romance author who was born and grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, the granddaughter of Esther Fanous, a revolutionary feminist and writer in Egypt during the early 1900s. Upon graduating with a BA in French literature from Alexandria University she travelled extensively throughout Europe and lived in Switzerland, France and England.
After marrying her English husband, she settled in Kent and subsequently had little time for writing while bringing up two children, looking after dogs and horses, and running her own business renovating rundown cottages.
Hannah now divides her time between her homes in Kent and the South of France.
She has written six novels: Aphrodite’s Tears; Indiscretion, Masquerade and Legacy (the Andalucían Nights Trilogy); The Echoes of Love and Burning Embers. Hannah’s books have won various awards, including Best Romance for Aphrodite’s Tears at the International Book Awards, National Indie Excellence Awards, American Fiction Awards, NABE Pinnacle Book Achievement Awards and New York City Big Book Awards; Best Romance for Indiscretion at the USA Best Book Awards. She has also won Gold Medal for romance at the Independent Publisher Book Awards (The Echoes of Love), and Gold and Silver Medals for romance at the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards (Indiscretion and Masquerade).
She is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) and the association for Romance Writers of America (RWA). Her website and blog can be found at www.hannahfielding.net

This novel is the follow up from Hannah's other novel" Indiscretion", and it didn't disappoint.
The main character Luz finds herself torn between two men, one a gypsy Leandro who she desires , and her employer Andres who look so similar, yet he is a bit of a mystery, and stirs unfamiliar feelings in her. I loved reading about the clairvoyant side to it, and I was fascinated by how she described us Geminis.
I can't wait for the sequel.
So there’s the basics of the book – a little stereotypical a little tired, maybe, but the writing style really brings this tale to life. Fielding really knows how to write a historical fiction and her descriptions of the world around her is written with skill, understanding and knowledge. The scenery, the culture springs from the pages and you find yourself wrapped in the warmth and feeling of a Spanish family. I very very rarely come across books that deal with the time period of the early 70’s in this country so it was a refreshing change to see this as the main period focus during the book.
Overall Luz is a lovely character; a strong character although a little stubborn. Not always the one to make the right decisions she lives in the moment but has a pride you would be silly to mess with. I liked the fact that she wasn’t a goodie-two-shoes type of character. She gets things wrong, she picks herself up, and she carries on. I think too often we are subjected to ‘perfect’ characters that don’t quite work for me; here getting an imperfect protagonist really worked.
This book however wasn’t without wobbles for me. Firstly our two love interests – as with a lot of romance books I’m sad to say there was a lot of instant attraction, love at first sight kind of mumbo-jumbo. Now don’t get me wrong I love a good romance but this was definitely a lust fueled romance hiding as love. It just made me angry because Luz doesn’t seem at any point to know the difference between the two. The love triangle felt a little tired and I must admit I’m not a fan of love triangles because they always leave the reader hanging and leave too much to be desired between a relationship for me. If a single relationship was worked and built better that will excite me more than a less built three-way triangle.
Additionally another wobble; Fielding paints an incredible picture of Cadiz and yet the characters lacked the same level of detail and importance for me. I think that the city almost came across as more important than our characters and although I adore good, well built up environments especially in historical fiction here I wanted more from each of the characters to mimic the authors skill writing about places.
Overall however this is a lovely little beach read that I would definitely have me wishing of sangria, beach towels and sky-blue skies. I thought that the ideas were there, the scenery was there but the lack of complete character description and at time dialogue meant that the script became a little dry and not all consuming. Definitely an author I want to read more from, just maybe this one wasn’t quite for me.
*I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.*
I have to confess, I really wasn't sure about it. I wasn't sure if the period or the people would suit me. How wrong can you be? I loved this book from the first word to the last.
Setting a book in Spain in 1976 was genius - I was in Ibiza that year and remember 1976 very clearly. I was 22 so could identify really strongly with Luz.
The book isn't just a romance, it's mysterious and atmospherical too.
It is the second in a series, but I read it as a stand alone and it was fine. Will probably go and read the first as well now :)
The warmth of Spain shone through the author’s words right from the beginning. There was a poetic quality to the way she described the sights and sounds of Luz’s surroundings and it pulled me in completely. As I progressed through the book I found that even the sex scenes were written in a creative way.
One of the first things to pop in my head as I read about Luz and Leandro’s attraction was Romeo and Juliet. The whole ‘we want each other but can’t have each other because of who we are’ thing gave the storyline an exciting edge. Luz’s curiosity about the gypsies was infectious, I wanted to know more and could certainly see why Luz found them so intriguing and in a way, magical.
The Gemini mystery was a fantastic twist and added even more confusion for Luz, so alike yet so different. I understood her mixed feelings because I had them too!
The romance, oh where do I start with the romance? Masquerade contained the kind of romance that makes your heart beat faster and your knees tremble. The author so beautifully created a tantalising love triangle focussing on two gorgeous men who had the ability to charm and captivate both Luz and me, the reader. Then, just as I thought I had it all figured out, I was knocked sideways by an unexpected revelation!
This was a mesmerising and drama-filled read that left me with a dreamy feeling. I look forward to reading more from this author.
