An astonishingly prescient, beautifully written and deeply humane new work of non-fiction from one of our greatest living writers.

V. S. Naipaul was born in Trinidad in 1932. He went to England on a scholarship in 1950. After four years at University College, Oxford, he began to write, and since then has followed no other profession. Format: Paperback
This is an interesting and observant travelogue. The book begins in Uganda and concludes in South Africa, taking in Ghana, Nigeria, the Ivory Coast and Gabon on its way. With each country he touches upon the economy, the people, the politics and above all, the prevailing belief systems. His style is simple yet poetic and one which transports the reader to the landscape of Africa quite effortlessly. This is a beautiful book, highly readable, highly engaging, thoughtful, insightful and hugely enjoyable.

Format: Paperback
the masque of africa glimmers of african belief by VS naipaul rather random in content never really achieving the object little new on african belief but the old idea that it is traditional and half way to witchcraft and not really a travel book mainly conducted in english and colonial in scope

Excelent book. An inside and revealing vision of Africa.
4.0 out of 5 stars His commentary on Africa nevertheless shows a great mind at work 12 Sept. 2014

A fascinating book for anyone who has lived in Africa. He does not necessarily look on the colonial impact on Africa in a totally subjective way. If there is a defence of colonialism it is unlikely to be found in Naipaul's work. His commentary on Africa nevertheless shows a great mind at work.

I started this book, but unfortunately I wasn't able to read more than some 10-20 pages, it's just boring. Sorry.
