I guess that this will be an easy review to write. If you are a fan of the Marx Brothers then this excellent book is an absolute must.It really does tell you all that you would want to know including facts about all of their movies, the many different actors that appeared in them and an account of each of the brothers lives.
The research that has gone into this book merits giving this the full five stars.Highly recommended as are other books in the series featuring Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy.
I've had this book a few months now and i've vastly enjoyed it. It's the ideal guide for any Marx fan, packed with pictures and photos that are rarely seen as well as some of the best. Inside, the entries are all good, and such entires as 'could harpo speak', and 'chaplain, charlie' are some of the most enjoyable. All in all it's a fantastic book, well worth owning.
'Its so simple a child of 5 would understand, fetch me a child of 5'. This one sentence sums it up and any book with a chapter called 'Could Harpo speak' is worth the money alone. This is the updated and corrected edition and would be perfect for any true comedy or film fan.
Perhaps I'd have preferred a History or a 'Life Story' of each of the brothers. This book is undoubtedly well written and researched, but some of the entries take the fun out of this incredible family team.
Each film is lovingly and painstakingly examined in the entries, and some of the comments are very clever at making you remember or maybe putting you on the 'alert' the next time you watch the films.
Trouble is, it IS an encylopedia at the end of the day. Reading it is like starting a dictionary at Aadvarrk. A good book to dip into when you feel the need, but not a 'read'.
