Martyn Murray is a writer, sailor and conservationist. He was born and brought up in Ayrshire, Scotland, went to school in Perthshire, sailed on the west coast in family boats (Falmouth Quay Punt, Folkboat and Ballad), and studied zoology at Universities of Edinburgh, Zimbabwe, Malaya and Cambridge. Martyn’s first foray into travel writing 'The Storm Leopard' took him across Africa along the back roads and into some out-of-the-way places where the best routes are along wildlife trails; it is a journey into the heart of the environmental crisis. 'A Wild Call' continues the journey by boat – a 1939 Fred Shepherd ketch – with a quest this time for personal freedom itself. He recently moved to the Isle of Lismore on the west coast of Scotland where he has established the Lismore Nature Centre. He has a grown up daughter in New York and son in Quebec.
