I managed to grab hold of a pre-release copy of 'Pleasures Of The Unknown' from the publisher and feel compelled to spread its virtues.

This book peels back much of the myth behind the Hannett/Factory Records story to reveal a unique personality dedicated to breaking new and often 'dangerous' ground in the recording studio. It does this via an in-depth series of conversations/interviews with a broad range of Hannett's professional contacts and friends. Chris Hewitt pulls it all together to produce an insightful and compelling documentary of this audio genius and creator of the 'Manchester Sound'. Martin Hannett may well be best known for his productions of Joy Division's albums,'Unknown Pleasures' and 'Closer' but a scan of these pages will soon reveal a great deal more. Highly recommended to anyone interested in the formative processes of music making as well as the genesis of music in, not only Manchester and the North West, but in the story of British Rock.

where is the punctuation? This could have been an excellent book. They interview the right people, but it it reads like the author's unedited notes. How was it published like this? Almost unreadable.

This book gives a great insight into the chaotic life of an innovator in recorded music production. For anyone interested in the North West and Manchester Music scene of the 60s 70s and 80s this is an invaluable point of reference.
