It follows a young serf who escapes and leaves England when his priestly older brother takes him crusading with a company of King Richard's archers. Years later the young man himself is the company's captain and leading its handful of survivors as they attempt to fight their way home to England.
The second book "The Archer's Castle" follows William and Thomas in the fighting and intrigue of medieval England when they return enriched by the coins they've obtained safeguarding refugees and pilgrims in the face of Saracen invaders and Moorish pirates.
In the third book in the saga, "The Archer's Return," Thomas and William's son remain in England while William recruits new men to fill the ranks of his company and leads them back to the Holy Land to improve their fortunes by fighting the Moorish pirates with archers trained to fight on both land and on ships.
Book four is "The Archer's War" when William and Thomas fight for the right to stay in Cornwall. Book five is "The Archer's Marines." William makes his third trip to the east to take prizes out of the Moorish ports with archers trained to fight on both land and sea - the first Marines.
The sixth book is "Archers and Crusaders" wherein the archers confront the errant churchmen and crusaders of the fourth crusade; the seventh is "The Archer's Gold" wherein the archers conduct a great "sting;" the eighth is "The Missing Treasure" about the action packed role of the English archers as carry people to safety during the crusaders' sack of Constantinople.
The medieval novels follow Martin Archer's earlier action packed novels in his acclaimed "Soldiers and Marines" series. "Soldiers and Marines" is an exciting war story about a young man who joins the military and then decides to stay on active duty. As a result, he participates in various real and soon to occur wars during the course of his life. The five novels in this saga follow his military and personal life from war to war as he grows older and older and more and more experienced and senior.
