Matt Damon stars in this award-winning sci-fi comedy drama directed by Ridley Scott. During a mission to Mars, a crew of NASA astronauts are caught in a storm that leaves Mark Watney (Damon) missing and presumed dead. As the rest of the crew return to Earth, Watney awakens to find himself surrounded by the desolate landscape of the red planet. With no way to communicate the news of his survival back to Earth, Watney must figure out a way to prolong his life expectancy until the next NASA mission visits the planet in approximately four years. The all-star cast includes Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Jessica Chastain and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The film won Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy and Best Actor - Musical Or Comedy (Damon) and was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects and Best Actor (Damon).

The UHD picture and sound quality are mesmerising, a truly superb sample of what UHD can offer. I only wish UHD price point was around the £15 mark and not £20 - £25....
It was a lot more difficult in the book. It was a lot more dangerous. It was dirtier and hungrier. The roller coaster of hope and catastrophe was a lot more pronounced in the book. It took more people, effort, compromise, hard work, dedication and sheer will power in the book. The book was better at showing the guy's genius at survival. And his amazing sense of humor, which probably carried him through.
But it is still a good movie. Just don't read the book before.
A brilliant movie & a very good translation from book to film.
Extended version not massively different to the original as far as I could tell.
One of Matt Damon's best in my book. 4k's are still too expensive, Blu Rays seem perfectly adequate quality-wise unless it's a movie you really want to treasure (until 8k is released anyhoo)
