Every time I "review" this interesting B movie I get slammed! No it's not a contemporary gore-filled sci-fi spectacular! Nor is it an intellectually advanced post-modern take on alienation (or Alien Nation!). But I like it! Tom Tryon gives a solid performance as the "creature" and the plot delivers some gentle shocks moments in a noirish black and white movie that is much more interesting than its schlock title suggests.
If you don't like this sort of low-budget movie don't buy it - but don't attack those of us who do. Thoroughly recommended for "anoraks" like me!

This is a very, very entertaining Sci-Fi film - I enjoyed greatly watching it. Below, you will find some more of my impressions with limited SPOILERS.

First, let it be said, that this is an old film (1958), in black and white, with poor special effects, little budget, a so-so scenario and little known actors. So, why the heck did I rate it four stars? Well, there are many, many reasons:

1) This film is absolutely hilarious. Now, granted, many of the gags were not intended by the director and scenarist, but the final result WILL mightily cheer you up. I can not give away too many details, but let it be said nevertheless that the appearance of the "monsters" and the design of the alien spaceship provide a significant part of the fun. The final "battle for the Earth" scene is another part of the charm of this film - believe me, it is much, much better than those described in "Earth vs. Flying saucers" or "Independance Day" (which are both great monuments of comedy)...)))

2) The reflections about marriage as seen by men, women and "monsters" from outer space are great fun! However, they are NOT for the feminists...

3) This film was amongst the first to make a full frontal attack at the subject of "alien sex", by showing a group of human women who without a shadow of doubt had full intercourse with horrible alien creatures and adding that both sides actually ENJOYED it!. Now, this being the 50s, nothing else than a couple of kisses is shown, but the whole film asks this question: "What exactly were they doing in their bedrooms?" and that gives it a very peculiar, somehow kinky, atmosphere...

What on Earth is this price tag of £91 doing under my version. An unbelievablely silly price. I got it for £2! Forget the title , this is a good no nonsense SciFi, yes, a "B" film but well made and the DVD transfer (16.9) is very clear B/W. The story is silly and the the acting apart from Tryon and Gloria Talbot is strictly what you might expect from a low budget film like this. However, I have seen worse monsters and SFX, and personally I enjoyed this one and put it up there with some of Universal's better Sci Fi films of the same period. Talbot fans (of whom I am one since a boyhood crush that still remains) will like her performence. Recomended to Sci Fi fans, but for heavens sake...Do not spend £91...Lokk at the Warner Archive DVD.

Something seems strange about the old gang. They gave up alcohol and oxygen. And Bill Farrell (Tom Tryon) seems even stranger. Oh it's his wedding night. Anyway Marge Bradley Farrell (Gloria Talbott) is starting to suspect that something is afoot. Maybe more than the foot is being substituted. Why does Bill tell her that he is just learning how to love?

Stay tuned for her shocking revelation and dilemma on "Who can you trust."

There is a little more psychological depth of thought that went into this movie. It is not just another "Earth girls are easy" script. You may even find yourself rooting for the substitute.

This was a DVD that my boyfriend had wanted to own for some time - so he was very keen to get it despite it being an imported version - as there was no other version available. It was very good quality and was all english speaking - not subtitles - as it may appear from the purchase screen. Despite the era in which it was made - the storyline and effects were very well handled - and so it is not one of those old films that makes you cringe with embarrassment at the attempts to scare the audience. It actually has a depth and poignancy to it, as the character of the monster is eerie yet pitiable. We both really enjoyed the film - and if you are a fan of 'fifties monster films' then this is a must !
Well worth the slightly higher price tag......!!!

Not as scary as when I first watched it in the 70s, but it's still an excellent movie to watch, about a girl who marries her childhood sweetheart.
I shall say no more!

THANK YOU!
