This is the ideal book to read in the run up to the festive period, it has Christmas elements to it but Christmas really takes a backseat to let the focus be on the characters themselves. A great little story - 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 for Amazon and Goodreads!
Kate works in a flower shop and is getting married in just a few days on Christmas Eve - to a man that she considers to be the "right" one because all the signs on her astrological chart point to him being the "one."
For that reason, she can't figure out why she keeps dragging her feet about the upcoming nuptials. After finding a handwritten note in the vintage wedding dress she buys, she looks into the mystery of the dress and finds answers for her own life.
Kate is planning her perfect wedding to fiancée Tim who she met just three months ago. Whilst wedding dress shopping with her mother and sister Bea in the town of Risdale she finds her dream dress a vintage gown which had been left on the doorstep of the shop. Having no clue who previously owned the dress Kate discovers a note pinned inside wishing the new owner of the dress the best of luck with their wedding. Kate is in intrigued and wants to find out more.Kate embarks upon a quest to locate the owner and in doing so is reassuring herself that she is making the right decision to marry Tim despite some niggling doubts at the back of her mind.
The story takes place in a very short time frame in the week leading up the wedding and Christmas , the author is able to fit a lot in to such a short time frame and I felt the characters became really well developed. There was no messing about setting up the story. We are plunged straight into the world of Kate and her family. I got to know them well and felt for Kate and her indecisiveness. Kate who works as a florist does her best to solve the mystery and uses social media and newspapers to try and locate the one time owner of the dress and I loved what happened next as it was such a sweet and romantic story. It is hard to review a novella without giving too much away but I think I have set the scene for what takes place in the story.Married by Midnight had the perfect magical ending. Talli Roland writes with humour and sensitivity and this Christmas novella has got me in the festive mood.I’ll definitely be checking out more books and novellas by Talli as I can’t believe I hadn’t read anything by this wonderful author before.
I read this short story and absolutely loved it. It's different and a really feel good novel which is ideal for the run up to Christmas.
