The book runs through the authors thoughts on attraction within a marriage, and how this can be either improved or eroded by your actions - however well intentioned.

Key are the subconscious evolutionary mechanisms behind our actions, as well as the differences between how our instincts and society tell us to treat (and be treated by) a mate. Despite the previous negative review, there are no mind-games within this book - just an honest and well thought out appraisal of the dynamics of a marriage.

Athol Kay explains and advises in a playful, informal style, without losing the vital importance of the subject. The advice is sage and the suggestions are practical.

This book has helped me immensely by giving me an insight into what's really going on. I'm buying a copy for a friend who's getting married. They should hand these out along with the certificates.

There's a whole side to relationships which I didn't understand until I read this.

Men are continually told be good and kind to their wives if they want a healthy relationship and while this is partially true, being a servant and doormat will eventually lead to the wife losing her attraction for her husband. Women are attracted to strong men and bad boys, but want to have relationships with kind caring men. You need to mix strong leadership (alpha) behaviour with kind caring (beta) behaviour - neither on their own will work, you must blend the both if you want to bond AND maintain the physical attraction.

What this book does, and it does it really well, is to give strong leadership skills for those husbands who are toobeta, and kindness and caring skills for those men who are too alpha.

I've found the book very useful, it's helped my relationship with my independent feminist wife no end (she loves it when I am alpha).

Athol also runs a blog and forum with advice for both men and women.

Much of the manosphere, perfectly correctly, advises men not to marry. There is no longer any justification for the legal contract as far as men are concerned, it is taking a huge risk for no gain. Better to spin plates or have unofficial LTRs. But what if you did marry, what if you want children? For these men, MMSLP is a premier resource, in fact THE resource, even about Rollo Thomassi's The Rational Male. Athol shows how to keep a long-term relationship alive, for the benefit of both man and woman. He doesn't deny hypergamy, he shows how to conteract it, which is much more valuable. While feminists will no doubt hate it, women in general will not. It is as much or more about giving the woman what she wants in a relationship as it is the man.

This book is based on too much false logic and bad assumptions.

One such logic is that by increasing your score out of 10 you will suddenly hold all of the cards in a relationship including unlimited sex. The author also puts a lot of emphasis on losing weight which I believe is probably a bias from his own personal experience.

The author writes from an ego driven standpoint on a number of occasions with stories of how assertive/dominant he is. Including a comment about simply making eye contact and pointing to the bedroom in order to initiate sex. It only takes a quick google of the author's name to find his blog and picture and then you get a huge disconnect from the image he is trying to portray and the image you will be met with.

I think he is trying to live out his fantasies with a lot of what he says in this book rather than giving any sound advice on how to improve anything.

Another false logic is that a woman who is sexually available is more attractive than a less available woman. Such that a sexually promiscuous woman who is "up for anything" is more attractive than a woman of otherwise similar qualities. Again this is false and even contradictory as it is only attractive when such a thing is exclusive to a man. Otherwise a woman is known as a "slut" which society readily shuns for a reason. (Because being sexually promiscuous is not productive for society as a whole)

So yeah gross oversimplification of a lot of topics and really faulty logic.

I am 'happily married' and am jumping into different sections of this book with excitement and will return to do a fuller review when I finally read it properly, or while reading it. But as far as I have read this is the best book on married (man) relationships that I have ever read, furthermore the book is in many ways geared towards not only towards marriage but towards life. What I like most about the book is that I feel like the author is personally addressing me! He seems very authentic using his wife and himself in many of the anecdotes which he relates. I am in the process of developing a non-fiction manuscript and from Athol's example will utilise this technique.

It may not be THE way for you but you'll understand more by reading it and I would bet anyone $100 that even if the way wasn't for them they took something from it that justified the cover price + paying off their $100 bet. I'm sure I'd win that bet 99 times out if 100.
