I believed all the hype and reviews from ` trusted ` sources. There are 2 camps with this jacket. a) its great b) its rubbish. I am in camp B. The fact that there are so many people out there complaining seems to point to a fundamental problem with quality control on these items. But some things make me suspicious ...people reviewing saying they climbed a mountain and the inside was bone dry. If you gave NASA a billion pounds they could not make a jacket that could shift sweat that fast. Even with no rain, the sweat would line the jacket with dampness. You will even get that with Polartec neo, Goretex pro etc ,though to a lesser degree. It is simply nonsense to say that you can hike in this jacket , in temperate climes, and not get it soaking with sweat. It breathes the same as a bin liner. ie, it doesn`t. Worse if it rains, there is no coating on the jacket...water does not bead and run off...sleet is worse. Rain or sleet seeps straight into the material and it wets out in minutes, not hours.. Now, its hard to tell if this contributes to the internal dampness but it definitely inhibits whatever breathability this jacket may have. And 2.5 technology is marketing guff whilst we are at it.

The seams are neat , it is well stitched, the seam taping is spot on. But the fabric is krap so its all for nothing. The velcro is a joke and its a constant faff putiing it back together , especially the piece on the hood. Its like they deliberately sent out teams to all corners of the globe to find the cheapest, most useless excuse for velcro they could find. They certainly succeeded. There is a small square on each pocket which allows rain to drive in as the rest of the pocket billows open. The zips are cheap and not water resistant so water ingress is a severe problem there.

This precip coat fits very well, sits nicely and is comfortable, it is waterproof in heavy rain and I have no qualms about its ability in this area. However, any layers beneath it get soaked with perspiration and condensation. I am not a 'sweaty' person and I have tried the same base layers under my old green Berghaus lightening jacket which is at least twenty years old and has seen better days, but it still breathes and there was no wetness in use with similar conditions to that experienced when the precip soaked the layer/s beneath. I will keep the coat because it is waterproof and I am at least aware of its shortcomings, but if you want a coat that 'breathes' well, look elsewhere.Marmot PreCip Jacket

I must complement Amazon on their after-sales. The Hem in the Precip along the zip edge came away from the body of the coat, I think it was cut a little on the mean side and there was nothing for the stitching to grip, it didn't detract fron the use of the coat as it was on the inside edge, but it was still a fault. I reported this to Amazon and within two days a replacement coat arrived. Freepost labels were emailed proir to the delivery for return of the damaged one. Wonderful Service!

Ordered the two tone version and received this item instead - after the initial disappointment it has proved to be very functional - lightweight and waterproof.

This is a well manufactured waterproof jacket and good value at the prices available on Amazon. I find it a useful light weight waterproof to carry when shopping, it will cope with the heaviest showers. However, it is not at all breathable and not much use for any kind of outdoor activity. Even walking around town in rain at 10 degress Centrigrade is too sweaty. My comments based on jacket manufactured 2013.

Ok, first thing is that this is kind of like a pacamac. Its extremely thin and light. But thats where the comparison ends. The nano-pro technology seems to work well and having done a bit of research its the most breathable thing out there in low temps (gortex, paramo etc works better when its warmer). I've bought it as shell to go over a down jacket as I want as little dampness as I can get when I'm spending days in below freezing temps. It's well constructed with a fairly chunky zip for the weight of jacket which I like. The pockets are a little pointless, the mesh ones are kind of useless for keeping hands warm but its short enough to stick them in your trouser pockets or you'll just have to wear gloves. The forearms and other parts are fairly well fitting but you can still fit well clothed arms in them etc and it does reduce flapping about of useless extra material. All in all its great if you want a lightweight highly breathable jacket for walking that will take up very little weight or space in a backpack but probably not the best choice if you're going to be doing any heavy work such as rock climbing as I'm not sure it would take as much of a battering as an old style gortex. I buy and use a lot of outdoor equipment and this has to be my favorite purchase of the last few years, I wouldn't change a thing on its design (even those pockets) and the price is reasonable.
