5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless design, fresh off the color wheel..... 6 Jan. 2015
By LKP - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I just received this book as a holiday gift, and I love it. As a mixed media artist who loves excessively-layered and crusty/gnarly surfaces and colors -- this overview of the amazing Marimekko design traditions (still going strong!) gave me a lot to think about. Within the pages of this beautiful, handsome book are page-after-page of examples of crisp, pure innovative design that rely on spot-on composition, glorious CLEAN colors, joyous motifs, and brilliant scale. (And, as a nostalgic aside, I was reminded of how Marimekko entered my design consciousness, decades ago. Back then, I sewed huge Marimekko print toss pillows for our first "young married" apartment -- and the memory of that beautiful vibrant print is still with me.) Some design classics go in AND out of style --- I think it is notable that Marimekko prints just REMAIN in style. Surely, an indicator of brilliance and innovation. This book was a breath of fresh air, and I will enjoy having it in my art studio library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of full page samples 14 Feb. 2016
By Susan J. Arnal - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this because I have loved Marimekko fabric since the 1970's and I now am learning fabric design. What I like about the book is that there are full pages, lots of them, with the designs in detail and with marvelous colors. It is as if you are holding a large swatch of the fabric. I also appreciate the info about the various designers and their processes. This book is a good resource for those interested in surface design or graphic design.
