I received an ARC of this book for an honest review and I am so glad I did!
First of all, it is romance with an "element" of paranormal. I have ideas in my head of what I think paranormal is in the life of the book genre, and this was not it. I am so thankful I read this book and not passed it up because of that. Ms. Welch is a mastermind when it comes to story telling!
The story starts with us meeting Evangeline, a young girl who had a dream about a boy who saves her. She is a firm believer in these dreams as it is part of her upbringing. Her family has this gift and she believes in it. But as time goes on and she grows older and life takes a toll, she loses her belief in this gift.
Skip to the present and Evangeline is married and had a son. She lost her child in a horrible incident just before birth and since then, her life has been turned upside down. She and her husband have been separated for two years. We find her struggling every day just to get through. Then suddenly, fate steps in.
Gabriel Roberts is a world famous movie star that is in New Orleans filming a movie. Poor Evangeline has some health issues and on a particularly bad Friday, she finds herself in need of some help. Gabriel steps in. It's his last day of filming and he asks her to show him around town before he leave. The two connect on an incredible level. From there the story takes you on a magical ride.
"Would you like to spend the day with me? I know it's the Fourth of July and please don't feel obligated to say yes. It's just that --last night was one of the most amazing nights of my life.Read more ›
The tour host organiser of this book asked me to take a chance and I'm so glad I listened to her. I was so gripped with this storyline. The paranormal and religious angle is not thrown at you. Fantastic job by the author.
Im always reading. On the odd occasion I read a book that gives me goose bumps. This is one of them reads. I felt in parts my heart was gonna stop.
I'm not going to go into the storyline as I don't want to give anything away. All I'm going to say is this is a really brilliant read that I'll be highly recommending.
I'm so happy to hear there is more to this series.
Both characters were complex, believable, and not so different from people I know in real life. I loved Gabriel almost immediately but struggled a little with Eva and her grief, maybe because it hit somewhat close to home. Eva was broken from the loss of her son, just going through the motions of life, and Gabriel was an actor not entirely comfortable with his fame. To say it was love at first sight would make light of their relationship; you'll have to read for yourself to understand what I mean. (The Disney song "Once Upon a Dream" comes to mind.)
Marigny Street was incredibly, vividly descriptive. I've never been to New Orleans, but I could see, hear, smell, and taste everything so clearly that I feel as though I have been. Annie Rose Welch has a gift for making you feel like you are truly there with the characters.
This was the first book I've read by Annie Rose Welch, and I was truly touched by it. I am looking forward to diving into the second book of the Saving Angels series right away, and I've already followed the author on both Facebook and Amazon. (Yeah, it was that good.)
I reviewed this book on behalf of A Book Lover's Emporium book blog.
