Top Customer Reviews

By Marand TOP 500 REVIEWER on 14 April 2010
Format: Paperback
Large format book with lots of luscious photos, clean layout in typical Marie Claire style. There are probably 250 - 300 recipes divided by season covering salads, soups, starters, mains, cakes, puddings, marinades, even some jams. There are pictures of most, if not all, the finished recipes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given that its author is food editor of Marie Claire Australia, there is a Pacific rim bias. The food is generally light & interesting. There are lots of fish & seafood dishes and south-east Asian and middle eastern influences. There are plenty of lovely fruit-based desserts e.g. vanilla peach meringues, rosewater pavlova with berries, passion fruit tart, peach tart (also flavoured with rosewater). Winter recipes include more substantial dishes such as roast beef with wild mushroom butter, or bean & sausage stew but there are still a lot of lighter dishes e.g. glazed duck breasts served with a salad, or lemon chicken with tomato salad.

One word of warning - a note on the inner dust jacket states that "Along with dozens of fresh new recipes, Marie Claire Seasonal Kitchen incorporates recipes that have appeared previously in 'Comfort' and 'Luscious'" so if you have either or both of those cookbooks by the same author you may not want to bother. I don't have the other books so I can't tell how much duplication there is but I am guessing that there will be a fair bit of replication if they have included a note. If you don't have the other books, this is a great selection of healthy recipes which differ from those in most of the seasonal cookbooks I have come across.

On of my favourite cookbooks. I haven't got close to trying all the recipes, but all the ones I have tried have been delicious. The recipes are split by season ensuring you cook with seasonal products. The pictures a beautiful too.

HASH(0x8dbb6db0) out of 5 stars Fresh and easy recipes to enjoy all year 17 Nov. 2007
By Milda Ruffo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
First of all, this is a very beautiful (and heavy!) cookbook. The photographs of the finished dishes are gorgeous and full-page. The print is relatively large and easy to read. I have tried several of the recipes with perfect results. What I like most about this cookbook is that it isn't a collection of slightly tweaked adaptations from other sources but refreshingly original and easy to make combinations of ingredients. There are a lot of ideas between the formal recipes as well that are interesting, useful suggestions for making the most of seasonal ingredients. So far, I have made the Pineapple and Lime muffins (with coconut and coconut milk), the Aromatic Roast Chicken Breasts, Dill Pancakes with Smoked Salmon, Tuna and Quinoa Salad, Squash and Hazelnut Salad, Baby Beets with Walnut Dressing, Tomato and Prosciutto Risotto and the Chestnut and Mushroom Soup. They all tasted terrific and looked as good as the photographs in the book. The recipes are very up-to-date and well tuned in to how we eat today. You will enjoy reading and cooking from this book for a long time. Highly recommended.

I gave this book to my daughter who already has Marie Claire Fresh and Fast, and she was thrilled with it. The Receipes are very easy to make and not too many ingredients to worry about. An excellent book.

Makes pleasant reading and the photos pretty but ingredients not what I stock every day so must plan to use this book's recipes and go to multiple grocery stores to get the necessary.
