I found this book quite aggravating. It asserts many ideas, most of which good and others which are not accurate or near current thinking.

It is a basic quick summary but seems to try to convince this book is all you need - the diet info, training info etc are pointlessly basic and not great. A sample training plan could have been given on one page for example that gave a one week overview with recommended mileage.

The aspect I found poorest was the language - pedantic at times, old fashioned yet grammatically poor and either patronising or condescending in equal measure.

I actually think this book is aimed at people who see no.purpose in running and this is to convince them that it's possible for anyone. This book would not be anything other than the most basic intro. If looking for training info, I'd look at multiple other more qualified books.

I have been training for a while. I have read some few articles and journals but I thought it is time to research deeper and get a book with the fundamental aspects about training for a marathon. This book came in handy and I learnt a lot. The book works you up to the day of the marathon. The different training stages discussed assisted me in improving my body condition and I know I will be fit for the next marathon

My challenge was endurance training. I think my speed training was also a bit off. I am thankful to have read this book because the training on endurance and speed has benefited my training schedule. I improved my time on the course I usually run by about 55 seconds. I know it will get better with time. As far as diet goes, the plans described in the book seem ok, reasonably balanced out between energy and recovery foods.
