There are maps - and there are MAPS! This is a lovely hand-painted full-colour map of the Heath and comes straight from the heart. If you are put off by the usual cold, clinical maps - and you love Hampstead Heath, then check out Michael Toohig's map. It reveals the Heath with all the detail you'll want and need: location of sculptures, ponds, paths, roads, beauty spots, buildings and toilets! The map is derived from aerial photo's and personal research and so is more accurate and detailed than any 'official' map; easier to make sense of and use, too. Michael has illustrated the map with his own delightful watercolours, and on the back of this handy fold-out sheet there is an illustrated comprehensive history, geography and ecology of the area. It is beautifully and professionally presented and printed with a glossy card cover. Get one!

The postage (from the UK to the USA) was more than the price of the map, BUT this is the PERFECT MAP for a day on Hampstead Heath...or more than one, if you can swing it. It has very attractive drawings, it's on coated paper, it's easy to fold up again (!!!) & it has information about the geology, history & ecology of the area. The trails are easy to follow & it even has the public toilets marked (now THAT is progress!). It's a real keeper & will stand w/my books & not be relegated to the "just maps" drawer. It's really a lovely little work of art & eminently practical. Can't recommend it highly enough.

It's an excellent map full of detail and illustration and now I don't get lost! I used it yesterday to go through Golder's Hill Park, onto the Heath and across to Parliament Hill via the ponds.
