Review

"Steve Santagati has done it again! He brilliantly shares the secrets men don't want women to know about them. It's like having a cool, best guy friend in your back pocket. This book is a MUST have for any woman who wants to know how men think, and, more importantly, have the upper hand in winning over the man of their dreams."
--Dr. Robi Ludwig, author, psychological commentator, and host of TLC's "One Week to Save Your Marriage"
"Steve is definitely a man's man! I've seen him in action, and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to dating and relationships. I'm sure The MANUAL will become every woman's "mible" (a Bible on men)!"
--Rachael Ray, #1 New York Times bestselling author and TV personality
"Steve has opened a real can of worms with The MANual. It's going to be much easier for women to traverse the dating world after they read this...and much tougher out there for the bad boys!"
--Molly Sims, star of the hit show "Las Vegas"
"[Santagati's] short, easy-to-digest chapters make a perfect way to browse away an afternoon, gain some perspective and try narrowing the age-old gap between the sexes."

OK, so I am giving 3 stars as the book actually contains some very useful information (don't jump to conclusions here, read further on) even though the title is misleading.
So the book is called:
The Manual: A True Bad Boy Explains How Men Think, Date, and Mate--And What Women Can Do to Come Out on Top
but in my opinion a more appropriate title might be:
The Insight: A True Bad Boy Explains How Bad Men Think, Date, and Mate--And What Women Can Do to Avoid Them
For one - the author is wrong in asserting that all women want bad boys - that is a stereotype and purely author's conviction - I as a woman want to stay clear of such "bad boys" so why on earth would I want to come out on top, unless the coming out on top means successfully recognizing them for what they are and managing to steer clear of them ?
From this perspective, unlike some reviewers I don't believe the book is all that bad - it does contain an invaluable insight into the mind of a genuinely bad guy who explains the workings of such a bad guy's mind and I think that the author does so really well. I have personally been unfortunate enough to come across this type of men and how I wish I'd known what I do now after reading this book. Yes, some of the info in this book is brutally honest and not pleasant to read at all - as I think for the author the coming out on top actually means "managing to be sexy and pleasing to the bad guys so they actually pay attention to you". For example the author states that as soon as a guy lands a sight on you he is running an internal `expiration clock" - you read that right ! As in he already knows what time he wants to spend with you and how.

This book is great because it is a male perspective. Most books on the subject are written by women. Ultimately they all compliment each other, but I feel that this book more than any other promotes just being yourself. Don't play games, just be true to who you are. So many other books promote 'rules'. This just gives you good advice on how to be the best you can be whilst looking after yourself in a relationship. I'd definitely recommend it.

A really good book, gives you some sort of understanding into the mind of a man. Some of the advice can be put into good use to benefit a women in a variety of ways. Written by a man with great experiences and you can always relate his stories to a man you know. Had me laughing, had me thinking ow no is that how they think. However over all it was a very intresting book, Well done Santagati, written better than any one with education!!!

Interesting and quite amusing in parts, it does give a few tips on how to play a bad boy at his own game. I'm not convinced there isn't too much emphasis on game playing however, although it does touch on the need to develop your sense of self worth which I feel is the most important message. The tips on how to dress are also a little 'off track' for the more mature lady, so I'm tipping this book is aimed at the younger end of the market. All in all, I wouldn't say it was the most enlightening self help book I have read, but it gave me a couple of interesting pointers and a few chuckles.

Although the writer came across a little sexist on more than one occassion, I couldn't help but feel he was reflectign the thoughts of many millions of men around the world - you know what they say, the truth hurts!!
It was a very well written book and quite funny. I got through it in one day, and there are few books that ever capture my attention so much that I want to read them in a day.
I have been thinking so much about what he said in the book that I am seriously evaluating my current relationship and thinking 'is this what I really want?'. I wonder how many relationships this book is responsible for breaking up.....and I don't mean that in a bad way!

A brilliant book, written in a humorous manner but with some seriously valuable information & suggestions on the dating game, be it what men find sexy in a woman's dress sense, improving our chances of meeting like minded men, flirting tips, & how to handle yourself during dates & that often awkward period early on in dating, when we are unsure who should call who or when.

There are some great insights into reasons behind behaviour that often baffles us women. Steve gives us a 'heads up' on what to look out for when dating, and ways to throw a curveball in a man's direction, to prevent ourselves being played, disrespected, taken for granted, & possibly to even prevent us from being dumped! The book enables us to take back control.

I admire the way Steve writes in a candid way, sharing things that many men would never share, & not taking himself too seriously. Reading this book left me feeling strangely empowered & more confident in my approach to dating & men. I am by no means naive when it comes to this topic. I am pretty clued up in the area of psychology & a pretty confident person around men, yet I still learned a great deal from this book, & gained many ideas on how I can better handle situations I've found myself in. For me it was like having a bad boy as a big brother, who was letting me in on all of his secrets, & looking out for me. Much of the book is geared towards helping us women improve our self esteem & confidence, so that we can enjoy being single, as well as enjoying a relationship.

There will no doubt be some women who will be offended at the idea of being told what a man finds aesthetically pleasing, or how to handle themselves to come out on top with men. For those women I would say this book is not for you.
