As Voted For By The Fans, This Is Manchester United’s Greatest Ever XI.

Robson or Rooney? Best or Beckham? Stiles or Scholes? A host of great players have played for Manchester United over the club’s long and distinguished history, but who would represent the Red Devils in your ultimate dream team?

A unique, fan-driven project, Manchester United: Greatest Ever XI sets out to select a definitive team of the greatest players ever to pull on the famous red shirt. A worldwide fan poll was held on manutd.com allowing fans to vote for their Greatest Ever XI and in doing so decide the line-up that will be featured in this official club DVD collection.
Across 4 DVDs, which include over 130 players, fans make the case for their picks and relive memories of mighty performances on the pitch highlighting the club’s most memorable players.

The first 3 discs take a detailed look at players by position – The Defenders turns the spotlight on full backs, centre halves and ‘keepers from Carey to Irwin, Stam to Vidic, and Stepney to Schmeichel; The Midfielders takes in United’s wealth of talent in the centre of the pitch, from tough tacklers such as Keane and Stiles to magicians like Best and Ronaldo; The Strikers celebrates the heroes upfront, including icons such as Cantona, Charlton and Law. Finally, on the 4th disc comes the moment of truth as the fans’ ultimate United side is revealed. Which superstars make the cut?

Disc 1
The Defenders: the players who have provided the last line of defence at Old Trafford over the years. From Ray Wood and Harry Gregg to Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar, we look at the ‘keepers who have been inspirations between the posts. In front of them, Jaap Stam stood as a behemoth, Charlie Roberts, Roger Byrne, Denis Irwin and Gary Neville were beloved by the fans for their efforts while Gary Pallister and Steve Bruce provided new manager Alex Ferguson with the rock upon which he built his first title-winning side and Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic provided the platform for another great United team.

Disc 2
The Midfield: four positions that have been filled with heroes over the years. These are the men who changed and controlled the game from the middle of the pitch for the Reds; ‘Captain Fantastic’ Bryan Robson, ‘Busby Babe’ Duncan Edwards and perhaps the greatest of them all George Best are among those featured. The Midfield also takes a look at some of the best to wear the magnificent number 7 shirt for United: Steve Coppell, Johnny Berry, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo and gives nods to Lee Sharpe, Andrei Kanchelskis and Ryan Giggs. Celtic Crusaders Norman Whiteside, Paddy Crerand and Roy Keane get their due as do Paul Scholes, Nobby Stiles and Eddie Colman, players who skirted the spotlight but drew the admiration of their peers.

Disc 3
The Strikers: the best and most notable forwards to wear the Manchester United shirt. From Jack ‘Gunner’ Rowley, to Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, we celebrate the players who have provided so many unforgettable moments. Included in the programme are pieces on pre-war stars Sandy Turnbull, Bob Donaldson, Billy Meredith; cult heroes of the Stretford End such as Stuart Pearson, Joe Jordan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; and the goal poachers who terrorised opponents inside the 18 yard box: Ruud van Nistelrooy, Brian McClair and Andy Cole. And, of course, there are the icons including Denis Law, Eric Cantona, Sir Bobby Charlton, and so many more.

Disc 4
With all the contenders covered, we come to the hard part, choosing The Greatest Ever XI. Presenter Steve Bower leads us through the results of a three-week poll conducted on Manutd.com to determine the fans’ choice for the greatest XI to play for Manchester United. Footage and graphics supplement the discussion as players are compared against each other and finally the results are revealed.
A panel of former Manchester United Greats, including Bryan Robson, Lou Macari and Paddy Crerand, debate the fans choices. They will reveal the poll results for the two greatest ever centre-midfielders, fullbacks, centre backs and one keeper then on to the wingers and strikers. Two wingers: who have the fans elevated? Giggs? Beckham? Best? Ronaldo? The panel debates the potency of certain pairings – Best receiving service from Beckham, Ronaldo and Giggs flying past opponents as if they weren’t there. Finally the strikers: have the fans chosen Wayne Rooney over Eric Cantona?

What do the legends think of the fans’ choice and which players are ultimately selected as Manchester United’s Greatest Ever XI ?

Manchester United has dominated the English game for the past two decades but this DVD focuses not only on those players who helped United win 12 Premier League crowns, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 2 European Cups and be crowned the world's best team twice during this golden era, but on all of the players who have made Manchester United the club it is today. There are old black and white snippets from past eras including the 1950s when the famous Busby Babes were not only the greatest team in England but in Europe. And it was nice to see Clarence "Lal" Hilditch, the only man to have ever been the player-manager of Manchester United, get a mention. But what better way for the DVD to start than to show the greatest footballer the world has ever seen, the mercurial Belfast Boy himself, George Best. Quite fittingly the first action we see is George famously chipping the ball over his international team-mate, Pat Jennings', head in a First Division match at Old Trafford with two defenders standing on the line! And this is soon followed by the audacious, but quite brilliant, chip Eric "The King" Cantona did in a Premiership game at Old Trafford against Sunderland. Two United legends, each unique in their own distinctive and iconic way. But this DVD is so much more than a look at the famous strikers we have been brought up on following United. It is a search for the Greatest Ever Manchester United XI which is no mean feat when you look at the household names that have pulled on the famous red, or green goalkeeper's jersey, of Manchester United. In this DVD you will learn what Manchester United actually means to us the fans because many fans from different countries have aired their opinion on who they believe is the greatest goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker in our history.Read more ›

This is my experience with my mates who have followed football for years, like many ,many other fans. Watching these films is fantastic. Being a 1950's baby, I well remember the tragedy of Munich. Since then I have moved in circles with Manchester United supporters over England and Wales. Passionate to say the least, enthusiastically devoted at the very least. The discussions turned more personal in terms of player choice and ability as nights went on (no beer!). We looked at these 4DVD collections of the Manchester United journey as a re-learning process as well as a timely reminder of the importance of the club's role in football's domestic and world development. This was a way of life. Not a hobby. The jigsaw fitted. If a piece didn't fit, it was quickly replaced. This collection of film history takes a football club through the greats of legendary players, numerous trophies, great managers and their achievements. They are all there in memory and history. Some half-forgotten but the other half remembered. The class players are there, plus the 'cloggers' (the day-to day players) just as important are there to remind us as anybody with a football brain can see them for themselves and I would not wish to insult local fans' greater knowledge. The boys from Manchester, many pals, have lots more opinionated views. This is my personal look after 60 years of a dominant club world wide. Not comprehensive, just a recommendation of the DVD's from an outside perspective.Goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, forwards. All are extensively covered. Look forward to hearing the afficianado fans and what they have to say.The DVD's tell it all, or most of it,and I presume given the 'Greatest Club In The World' (widely held) we will hear more , of course. Can't wait.Read more ›

Bought this as a Christmas gift for someone. He absolutely loves it and tells me (also a Man United fan) that every United fan should have this in their DVD collection. It makes for lively debates about our favourite players.

I'm told it's 4 hours of absolute United Heaven - go buy it if you love United! :-)

Fantastic collection of DVD's. Back to the classic United DVD standard with a bang! It's a great tribute to great Manchester United players past and present and I hope now this is the benchmark for which all future Bombo United DVD's have to equal or excel. Hopefully they keep this format for the season review this season!

Bought this for my husband as he has been a season ticket holder for over 30 years. He was delighted with it and has watched it and said it is a great selection of players but of course does not agree 100% with the choices but a great cd nevertheless
