This book contains practically everything woodland managers and owners need to know about the management of native woods. There is a wealth of information on everything from controlling mammal pests, to managing for wildlife, to the preparation of a management plan. This book is over 500 pages of full colour photographs and tables and an inspiring and interesting text. The book is very easy and enjoyable to read and is by no means hard work or boring. This book was published after I graduated from university having studied forestry. If it had been available, I am sure it would have been terribly helpful to me in my work. I am delighted to recommend this book to everyone, particularly students of forestry, forest managers, conservationists, and woodland owners. It may seem expensive but it is definitely worth it. A lot of the information is available free as PDF documents on the Forestry Commission website and in other books, but with this single volume, you have everything you need in one place.

This is, in my opinion, an excellent book. An essential work for anyone studying forestry in temperate climates. The book covers all of the major factors relating to the title in a clear and sequential manner.

Great book, though a big read - it has over 500 pages. It is full of colour photos and is split up into sections from the origins to animal damage to planting a new wood and managing new and old woods. It is recommended as essential reading for my course. It is a good read as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to work in this field.

Definitely the definitive book for planting and managing native broadleaved tree woodland. From how to do the fencing to what trees to plant when and how to go about, what to think about and how to carry it out...this book has been fundamental to the success of my woodland work.
