The Office for Government Commerce (OGC) is a UK Government Agency that produces top-notch guidance for the UK public sector that is adopted throughout the world. Perhaps most famous is its PRINCE" project management methodology Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2: 2009 Edition.
Management of Risk is their methodology for... Management of Risk. It is a thorough manual with a lot of great resources and, whilst not solely about project risk, it compares very well with the US Project Management Institute's Practice Standard for Project Risk Management Practice Standard for Project Risk Management. It has more and better checklists and is far more concerned with institutionalising good practices (as you might expect). If you are serious about risk management in any domain, then this is a valuable text - though not written as a way to learn the subject from the start. My own Shift Happens!: Managing Risk and Avoiding Failure in Buisness Projects is due out in summer 2011 and I found this a helpful background resource in evaluating my own thinking.
