Wow - what a book - just couldn't put it down, an incredible read - better than fiction!!! But ... well, that was it.. could this roller coaster life of his really be true? I mean well... Elizabeth Taylor's stunt double and the buddy James Dean was driving to meet when he had his fatal crash - I had to verify but the more I tried to substantiate his stories the less I believed them. His violent father??? - simply not true say his younger brother Larry, his aunt and his cousin and many of the others who knew him and his family. Read "Horse Whispers and Lies" available free on the internet and written by his aunt and cousin. Also "Horse of a Different Color" by John Skow in Time Life Magazine. Nicholas Evans the author of "The Horse Whisperer" also denies that Monty was the model for Tom Booker, the subject of his book (see his website). And so it goes on and on.....
So to summarise I really admire Monty and his work with horses but cannot accept that his so called autobiography is anything other than fiction. A really good read but simply not totally true and Monty the truth really does matter.
This book truly changes your outlook on life. For the better of all species.

Monty endured a lot as a child. How he overcame his fathers horrendous brutality is completely inspirational.Read more
