A discredited ex-CIA agent reduced to working as a private investigator, McGill travels the world as a 'gun for hire'. In place of the glitz and glamour of sixties private eyes, his world is one of uncertainty, tough decisions and a constant struggle to survive. Richard Bradford's astonishing method acting gives Man in a Suitcase a genuine edge and intensity that's reflected in Ron Grainer's driving, relentless main title, a dynamic theme employing strident piano and brass that has become a genre classic. Against this dynamic signature tune, Albert Elms' incidental cues provide contrasting moods throughout the series, reflecting a diverse range of global settings and following every pitfall on the rocky career path of the outsider known only as McGill.

Man in a Suitcase is just one of them cult shows that will always be remembered, and this fine soundtrack is no exception, the title music alone is worth the cost of owning such nostalgia on vinyl. This really is the crème of the la crème, when it comes to great classic series soundtracks, and the gate fold opening to this one LP collection is a really nice touch, with some great photo's from the show inside. 10/10 for a wonderful soundtrack that I'm sure I'll enjoy playing for many, many years to come, love the classics, I really do, if you love classic soundtracks, then this is a must buy/own for any fan of the show, that is Man in a Suitcase!

I love the series and the music is part of the charm. It is a very expensive CD though, taking advantage of the fans who 'have' to buy it.

This five-disc set contains all or most of the musical segments and cues recorded for the late 60s ITC series Man in a Suitcase, a quirky spy/thriller/mystery series that ran for but one season, starring method actor Richard Bradford. If you're a fan of the series, this set is a must, but even if you've never watched the show, you'll get a kick out of the music if you enjoy authentic late 60s lounge style television or movie scores. The music was composed principally by Ron Grainer, who did the scores for Patrick Macgoohan's The Prisoner, and some cuts have the flavor of that show. (Additional pieces were written by Albert Elms.)

Since this is a comprehensive compilation, there is repetition and variation on the same themes in some instances, and the cuts are relatively short and many in number: about 300 in all, I believe. Thus, those looking for something with shape and seamless flow may find the whole thing irritating. If you enjoy immersing yourself in period sound, however, or enjoy reminiscing about the series, this set is pure joy.
