Zack Snyder directs this action adventure feature, produced by Christopher Nolan and based on the DC Comics hero. After being sent to Earth by his parents to prevent him from dying in the destruction of his home planet Krypton, an infant boy is taken in by Kansas farmer Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and his wife Martha (Diane Lane), who name the child Clark. Growing up Clark (Cooper Timberline/Dylan Sprayberry) begins to discover the true potential of the superpowers he possesses but with this comes a sense of responsibility. In his 20s Clark (Henry Cavill) gets a job as a newspaper reporter at 'The Daily Planet' where he meets and later becomes romantically involved with colleague Lois Lane (Amy Adams). When an evil force threatens the Earth and its inhabitants, Clark resumes his true identity as a superhero and fights to save the planet. Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe and Laurence Fishburne co-star.

The first opening 20 minutes or so taking place on planet Krypton is amazing, im very surprised a prequel (before superman is born) of a build up leading to a war.
General Zod (brilliantly performed by Michael Shannon) and his side are class as he attempts to find superman after killing supermans original father Jor-El (Russel Crowe) and being imprisoned in space before Krypton explodes....
Awsome what a great stand alone film that would have made......
After that its the usual Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill) type of film but in a good way but the first part of film is unforgettable. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane play Clark Kents/Supermans Earth parents......
Christopher Reeve (original Superman) would have been proud if he were alive to see this.....
A fairly good origin story for The Man of Steel. Henry Cavill nails it as the son of Krypton ably supported by a good cast. Even Russell Crowe was great and I think he's fallen into the trap of just playing the same style in whatever role he plays!
It has a strong story arc so really, I don't see why it gets hate! The acting is slightly above an average superhero film and Zack Snyder's directing is focused, even in the long running time. It doesn't feel that long when it gets going.
Amy Adams was perfectly cast as Lois Lane and Larry Fishbourne is a bad ass as Perry White!
The Blu-ray image quality was reference standard and the audio was punchy and well mixed.
The opening scenes on Krypton were by far my favourite part. Russell Crowe plays Jor-El who attempts to warn the Council of his planet's impending doom before General Zod invades the chambers. The visions of Krypton are a director's delight. It would be wonderful if we could have a prequel set entirely on Krypton, featuring Jor-El, Lara and Zod.
Once Kal-E's rocket ship lands on earth, the film takes in occasional flashbacks on how young Clark grows up. Zod's spaceship forces Clark to don his cape and combat them
Whenever a new Superman movie is released, the actress playing Lois Lane is naturally assessed also. Amy Adams does a very good job as Lois. Instead of the old-fashioned 'Lois not realising that Clarl and Superman are the same person', it goes for the modern approach of her knowing that Clark has the powers and keeping the secret.
This film borrows a little from the original 'Superman' movie, plus 'Superman II', and also from the TV series 'Smallville' to produce a winning movie.
On the downside, it is a very noisy film, with the voices being somewhat quiet. It means that I have to change the volume frequently while watching the movie.
Also, Superman's battles with Zod and his collegues lasted far longer than needed. Epic damage was made, especially when the tussle moved to Metropolis. Realistically, a lot of people would have been killed when all the buildings came down. Not only that, I would have thought the Mayor of Metropolis would have given the cost of repair to Superman!
Still, a very entertaining movie; one of the top Superman films.
All said, really enjoyed movie as a whole, some beautiful scenes, an interesting choice of lead and a great score. A must have part of your Blu-Ray collection.
