Product Description

Product Description

Quentin Tarantino presents The Man with the Iron Fists, an action-adventure inspired by kung-fu classics as interpreted by his longtime collaborators RZA and Eli Roth. Making his debut as a big-screen director and leading man, RZA--alongside a stellar international cast led by Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu--tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero in 19th-century China who must unite to destroy the clan traitor who would destroy them all.
Since his arrival in China's Jungle Village, the town's blacksmith (RZA) has been forced by radical tribal factions to create elaborate tools of destruction. When the clans' brewing war boils over, the stranger channels an ancient energy to transform himself into a human weapon. As he fights alongside iconic heroes and against soulless villains, one man must harness this power to become saviour of his adopted people.

Blending astonishing martial-arts sequences from some of the masters of this world with the signature vision he brings as the leader of the Wu-Tang Clan and as one of hip-hop's most dominant figures of the past two decades, RZA embarks upon his most ambitious, stylized and thrilling project to date.

Includes both unrated and theatrical versions.

Bonus Features:

  • Deleted Scenes: The Saga of Gold Lion; Jack Knife Journey Through Wolf Mountain; Zen Yi and Chan Make Camp; Blacksmith Doctors Zen Yi; Mirror Maze
  • A Look Inside The Man with the Iron Fists
  • A Path to the East
  • On the Set with RZA: The Journey Begins; Casting Legends; Respect The Classics; Visualising the Story; First Person Shooter

The opening of this movie bursts with grindhouse brilliance, as a cast of actors looking exactly like the typical martial-arts characters of the 70's suddenly burst into thrilling, hyper-violent 'enhanced-reality' action, tearing limbs off each other and commencing the film with exciting 'kung-fu'.
Unfortunately what follows is bursts of high directorial talent mixed with a cast whose acting standard is as uneven as a tortuous rollercoaster, a plot that flatlines out of originality within ten minutes, and a lead who's a disaster.
When clan-leader Golden Lion is murdered after pledging to protect a vast shipment of the emperor's gold in a '70's TV' stylised historical China, evil son Silver Lion and his right hand man 'Bronze' set about plotting to seize the gold and wipe out their enemies the Wolf clan. Caught in the middle is the local blacksmith played by RZA, who is paying the local madam (Lucy Lui) to keep the girl in her brothel that he's fallen for to himself. Into this potent mix arrives Russell Crowe's mysterious 'Jack Knife'. Crowe is possibly the best thing about the movie, his character an amusing drunkard and lethal assassin who arrives in a shower of blood, and who realises that such an absurd and over-the-top movie demands a tongue in cheek, humorous performance. Lui is similarly amusing, and Byron Mann is deliciously evil and full of energetic charisma as Silver Lion.
Unfortunately, the plot is tacky stereotypical rubbish. The film wants to be a grindhouse fantasy of Chinese/American kung-fu seventies movies, but instead of being an inventive and postmodern re-invention it simply imitates them in the most tiresome of ways. Barely five minutes pass without yet another fight.

I'm not often moved to review but this really is a lemon. Confused in content, it lumbers inanely from one cliche to the next with no regard for plot or sub- plot. It is however accidentally funny on occasion and isn't too long if you can catch a quick 40 winks between the head lopping and dismembering "special" effects. Not quite Battlefield Earth (for my money THE worst film ever) but do yourself a favor and watch Enter the Dragon again!

This could have been a great film set in China with wonderful characters and english speaking chinese actors/actresses. Sadly it relies heavily on the flying tigers strings special effect a large part of the time to let the fights appear above air and slick. Unfortunately the characters are left behind and the story becomes secondary and its just one big special effects fights most of the time. Such a waste of time and talent.

If I could give this movie zero stars, that'd still be too many.Shamelessly crowbarring in as many martial arts movie clichés as possible, misplaced hip hop soundtrack, poor acting, laughable characters and an over weight, couldn't-be-bothered Crowe, who frankly looks bored /embarrassed. Add to that the brainless plot, over-the-top violence and some weird hair, and you get this misjudged nonsense.

It wants to be another Kill Bill.

It fails spectacularly. Unless you enjoy embarrassingly sucky films with unintentional laughs, AVOID.

It is what you would expect. A silly, entertaining movie with over the top violence and nice special effects. The movie is clearly a homage to Kung Fu movies with a little bit of Spaghetti Western. I would definitely recommend it as long as you are aware this is what you are getting.

If I could give it zero stars I would. Even with the inclusion of numerous action sequences and copious amounts of gore this film still manages to remain unutterably tedious - which is an achievement of a sort, I guess, but was probably not the one the film makers were aiming for. It is, for the most part, flatly directed and shot, poorly paced and not remotely engaging. An overweight Russell Crowe adds nothing to the proceedings and while I was glad to see the physically imposing Dave Bautista get a film role, the supporting cast tends towards the one dimensional and wooden. Not recommended.

This is what you would expect completely over the top wire work with Tarantino's brutality and blood lust. However it is a watchable. Meaning I was not bored but even I had to say "oh come on" to the over the over used wire work of this film. This is an ok action film. The cast worked well together even Dave Bautista and Cung Le did really well in their roles. The casts performance turned this from a 2 star to 3 star film for me.
