Bigger and better

One step better than first season (which was already great) in every department. With bigger plot, setting and acting. I think this series lies and falls with strong personalities, whom you follow to navigate through very interesting, but grim polit-fiction story with very high suspense.

I especially like Juliana Crain, who is wonderful and strong hero, doing always the right thing in difficult situations. But somehow Obergruppenfuhrer John Smith takes the lead this season and makes himself more likeable person and manouevre pretty well to conclude in very satisfactory and big finale. Third most strongest person for me is Chief Inspector Kido, very restrained most of the time, but decisive and willing to sacrifice himself (and others) in his actions.

Now Im wondering what happens next and mostly when we will have season 3 to enjoy ourselves again watching this marvel in tv shows business.

I was reluctant to get into The Man In The High Castle: wasn't sure about the theme, or whether it was my cup of ocha. I ended up flying through season one and getting into season two straight away. And then I seemed to struggle a bit; still in the binge-watching habit, but not into the programme. So I took a conscious break for a short time then started season two again. And I really am glad I did that.

I found this to be really complex. I watch a lot of stuff - well, half watch because things can be predictable or are yet another version of the same thing. Not so with this. Not so at all.

I loved it. The story; the depth; the acting. And the music. Powerful stuff, every tiny little fragment of it. Music-wise, Cherry Blossom, the music at the end of episode four of season two, took me to a new place (no pun intended).

I am really impressed with the last few Amazon productions I've seen. And I love that they care so much about the music they use within them.

If you're still reading, apologies for the gushing ramble; I have literally just finished the last episode and I've come straight to write this. If you do watch it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Humanity and Compassion in a world where 'black and white' moral lines blur every minute!
Verified purchase
Incredible, compassionate take on contentious issues; all done with such humanity!
Many of the elements in this series have the potential to incite a lot of backlash against the film makers but the compassion, heart, and intelligence of the story takes us beyond the 'NAZI' / 'Nippon' victory over the West (and all the rules and hardships that are imposed on the people of a defeated nation) and firmly places us in the shoes of all the people who have to live with this reality.
We are often shown that nothing is black and white and the 'good guys' might not be so good and the 'bad guys' nowhere near as clear cut.
Every episode we are asked to question our morals and principles with an underlying "What would YOU do in their shoes?" and as a result the show is always gripping and thought provoking.
This is easily the BEST SHOW on screens right now!

Masterpiece - takes the book to another level
Verified purchase
This is one of the most outstanding series I've ever seen. It's top notch in all areas - acting, believable characters, script, story, art direction and set design. The first series started as a slow burner, and to be honest I gave up the first time because I found it too grim to watch after reading the book, which actually comes across as philosophically funny in places. I'm so glad I gave it a second chance, because boy does the story hot up! They have actually expanded and fleshed out the book and the story is packed with gripping plot twists. Each episode becomes so detailed and engrossing you literally feel you are in that terrifying world. The genius of the writing is that the characters are constantly changing, and the bad guys become likeable, so at the end of the day good and evil becomes a murky grey area, just like the gritty set design and lighting. Well done to all who made it.

I loved both series 1 and Series 2 and both came as a pleasant surprise. I did not think television could (or rather would) do Dick's novel justice. I was wrong. The acting was excellent from all of the central characters, whatever side they are on. The story though, and the way it was filmed were both magnificent. In series 1 I could believe the world had been created in which Germany and Japan had won world war two. In series two, better still, I saw two worlds shown, an explanation of the films and storylines brought to a close. I don't think there should be a series three but the way has been left open. We will see.

I have to admit that I nearly gave up while watching the first few episodes of the first season of this show, but after being prompted by friends and colleagues to stick with it I persevered and by the end of the run I was completely bowled over by how good it was.

Season 2 continues in a similar fashion, but really kicks things up a gear early on and doesn't let up. The pacing, while slow, is consistent and really starts to build tension to a snapping-point later in the season and the excellent character development also continues to impress as you really start to care for the main characters - yes, even the nazi ones - as the season goes on.

The most impressive thing about the show however, is the performances from the cast. Every episode brings absolute masterclass performances from Rufus Sewell and the rest of them and if this second series isn't showered with awards I'll be really surprised. I could go as far as saying that it's the best acting I've ever seen in a TV show; it's just that good.

Brilliant plot and impeccable realisation

I've watched the two seasons of the Man in the High Castle and found the show absolutely superb. The scenario is really intelligent, the cast of characters is very original with interesting and complex figures - not at all the black and white archetypes you might expect in this genre - and the attention to details in the costumes, the dialogues and the sets is simply amazing. Each episode is as rich and as professionally shot as a small A-list Hollywood movie. A must-see.
