This was a book that held my interest until the very end. I felt so sorry for the children, who were ripped away from their father, and brought to a whole new country, where they were never accepted--by their grandfather, or by their peers.
Then, being ripped away from their mother, ripped apart from each other, and not knowing what happened to each other was another horror for them to go through.
What perseverance the character of Philip had. He really took his father seriously when he told him that now Philip was the man of the family, and had to look out for everyone else.
My only real issue with this book was the ending. On my Kindle it said I was only at 83% of the book when I was a page before the end--so I was sure there was lots more for closure. I was really disappointed in the ending basically just saying "The End" instead of feeling like everything was properly wrapped up.
I also thought the title was very original--especially considering what the book was really about. If you didn't read anything about the book before you read it, the title would be very misleading as to what the book really focused on.
