What a classic, it begins with Steve and Joe arguing over piona pitches, so funny. This video explores aerosmith shortly after their come back album "permenant Vacation". The video follows the work on the "Pump" album, which in my opinion is their best. You have to get this video, if not only to see your favourite band, but also to watch five excellent musicians doing what they do best!!

You either love Aerosmith or you hate them, and I love them! This DVD is a must have if you are a fan. I have to admit though as I am a bit dim, it took me a while to figure out that it was a two sided DVD and that I had to turn it over. But once I did, I was glued to the set until it finished. It shows sides of the band you don't usually get to see. It is great to see them in the studio putting their songs together, and seeing their personalities as they laugh and fight over music. I really enjoyed it and I am sure if you love the band, you will love this DVD. Enjoy, Danielle...

Pump is my favourite Aerosmith album of all time and sales suggest that millions of other people agree. I couldn't wait to finally sit down and watch what went into putting this collection of songs together but whilst the film is certainly interesting, it's not quite the mayhem-filled 2 hours you might have hoped Aerosmith to hit you with. There are without a doubt some great moments captured here but in my opinion it's all just a bit flat. The worst moments being the far-too-long individual interviews with each band member that seem to almost send each man to sleep - and yes, Steven Tyler is slightly more animated than the rest but even he's being conservative by his standards.
This DVD is only really for hard-core Aerosmith fans or people with a genuine interest into what goes into creating a classic album - creatively and technically. A good insight into the band in the studio but could have done with some harder, edgier jams of the classic tracks as well as some more hell-raising antics that we come to expect from the Greatest Rock n Roll Band in America

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare chance to see how a great band creates a great album! 25 Feb. 2001

Format: DVD
I don't know why some people are giving this one star. This video wasn't released to rip people off. If what you want are costly music videos, don't buy this. It's called THE MAKING of PUMP. That means that it takes you in the studio and shows you the band writing and producing songs intended for the PUMP album. I'm very glad that this video was released (as well as the Chili Peppers' Funky Monks video) because it's an extremely rare view to see the band in. I love the album PUMP and the video made the album even better for me because I saw that the band put a lot of work and heart into the album and still had alot of fun in the process. This is like a non-glamerous version of MTV's "Making the..." shows. There aren't any special camera effects and the band isn't covered in makeup. It's just to show what the process of making the album was like. And I love it (and I'm not even a HUGE Aerosmith fan).

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings reality to view on what really goes on 4 July 1999

I thought the Making of Pump was an exceptional video. I wanted to see more than just concerts this time. I wanted to see what the band had to endure to get a new CD & video out. I have also purchased " Big Ones and Texas Jam " and so far the Making of Pump is a Five Star for me..It takes something very special for a band to stay together all these years and still be able to relate to the real word . Because of all the ups & downs Aerosmith has went through I believe it has made them what they are today. I highly recommend this video to all fans , you will not be disappointed..Rock & Roll forever with Aerosmith.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Got "Pumped" Watching This 31 Mar. 2004

This DVD was exactly what I had hoped for. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't want a DVD of their video catalog. Although videos are great, they are "performance pieces" and you can catch those any time you want on MTV. This DVD brings you inside the studio .. and, in truth, inside the very creative minds of the members of the band. You get to see exactly what process they go thru to create their masterpieces. The DVD includes moments of brilliance, frustration, friendship, anger and sheer joy at realizing that their project is complete. All five members of the band are showcased and it becomes clear how each one is vital to the survival of the group as a whole. They candidly discuss their years of "drinking and drugging" .. and the lessons that they learned from it along the way. Being a musician myself, I was fascinated with the recording process and the methods the band-mates utilize to achieve a finished product. You get to hear the (now famous) hits in their infancy stages -- different lyrics, different music, etc. -- and the steps that were taken along the way to create the songs as we now know them. You see the anguish the guys go through when one of their songs is cut from an album. As Joe Perry puts it .. "these songs are their babies and somebody else gets to decide which of them will grow up .. and which ones won't".
Unlike the theatrical quality that you see in a produced music video, this DVD shows you the guys as they REALLY are. It even opens by hearing Joe Perry urinating in the toilet while he is talking to Steven about a song they are working on. It is clear that this is just an "ordinary" recording day for the guys. No stage make-up, no theatrics for the camera .. just the intricate thought process that goes into creating a work of art.
As a bonus, you do get to see two "finished" numbers .. "Love in an Elevator" and "The Other Side" and you appreciate them so much more having seen how every note was laid down -- all the way down to the background speaking noises for their videos or "opening clips" before songs.
Before I saw this DVD, I was a huge Aerosmith fan ... but I really only knew background info on the two "stars" .. Steven and Joe Perry. I was very pleased to get to learn more about the other three members of the band and how they all contribute to the workings of the "machine".
I highly recommend this DVD to anybody who is interested in HOW the songs are created. From humming and knee-slapping (pre-lyrics) to the glorious finished products that we have come to recognize as true masterpieces of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Making of Pump" and "Get A Grip" (Accuracy Update) 26 Aug. 1999
By A Customer - Published on
Format: DVD
"The making of "Pump" was created and taped at Rik Tinory Productions in Cohasset, Mass U.S.A.
The Band created and Pre-produced and composed and arranged and recorded most of "PumP" at this Legendary Studio and remained in the studio for an amazing, 18 months. The Band worked each and every day, sometimes for 11 hours a day, taking off only New Years Eve to play the Boston Garden(Fleet Center).
The Making of "Pump" which was taped with a Sony home Video Camera is an intregal part of Rock& Roll history, and these facts are vital to the band's past and future history ,accuracy is very important.
"Pump" was responsible for the return of the band in a huge way and resulted in Aerosmith's first"Grammy Award Feb 26,1991.
The band chose again to return for another 6 months for "Get A Grip".
Rik Tinory productions.provided a home for the band once again with privacy, solice and love. Aerosmith created some of it's greatest works at Rik Tinory productions. However, very little or no mention or credit was given for this tremendous effort, especially in the Aerosmith book ,"Walk This way". A token mention was given by Bass Player. Tom Hamilton, much to Rik's surprise, not a word however, from Steven Tyler, who Rik is extremely close. "It was more like a family situation and not just music business as usual". Steven and the guy's will always be special.
It was the little things: The fresh brewed coffee each morning with Steven and Rik discussing the serious mix of coffee beans, Steven request for my bar stool to be shipped to the " Grammy's" for him to sit on for "Good Luck", Steven's request for my vintage Rca mike which I never part with(also that Elvis used) be shipped to Vancouver for vocal overdubs, especially for the hit,"What It Takes",looking back,we had a lot of fun. No studio has worked out this well for the band.
Other Valuable Notes:
The first Aerosmth appearance on the "Simpsons" was recorded at the Rik Tinory Productions,as was the wild M.T.V. Harley Davidson giveaway party which was held on the Spacious studio grounds.
See more on the Rik Tinory Web Site.
More to come in the Biography, Rik Tinory book of Legends to include: Frank Sinatra,Don Costa.Aerosmith, Timothy Leary,Bob Hope, George Burns,Pope John Paul II,The Taylor Brothers and many more.
