About the Author

In common with his late father and grandfather, Alan Lugton, a native of Edinburgh, has been 'Hibs daft' all his life. He has transmitted his enthusiasm and affection for the club to his wife, to his children and to his friends, and practically all his spare time over the past thirty years has been devoted to exploring and recording the history of Hibernian.

The research that has gone into this book is astounding, the level of detail that Lugton reaches leaves very few questions to be answered. Although often written thorough green tinted glasses the book still holds up well. Indeed one wouldn't be surprised if the book had been more biased considering the post mercer era in which it was written.

This is quite simply the best book about Hibernian FC that I have read. Alan Lugton, unlike other authors , actually takes the trouble to research the history of the club,- from its founding by Canon Edward Joseph Hannan and Michael Whelahan on the 6th August 1875 up until the successes at the turn of the century. The result is a detailed year by year account of the club's great teams, players and outstanding matches of the era together with the major figures behind the scenes who drove the club on to be an institution within Scottish football. A wonderful book which does great credit to the subject matter.
