About the Author

Margaret Willes has spent a career in book publishing, initially at Weidenfeld & Nicolson, then Sphere Books and Sidgwick & Jackson, before becoming the publisher at the National Trust. Her first book was 'Reading Matters: Five Centuries of Discovering Books' (Yale, 2008), followed by 'Pick of the Bunch: The Story of Twelve Treasured Flowers'.

Purchased for a daughter for Christmas, this was opened with great pleasure and every visit from her since has included in the conversation a great deal of information that she never knew and neither did we about gardening in general and various points of particular interest to her. Fantastic book - great read for anyone interested in horticulture, and specifically 1560 - 1660 period. Will be reading more of Margarets books.
