There are example photos using women of different ethnicities. However, I feel book is kinda directed to Caucasian skins (and their problems eg wrinkles, etc) ie assuming reader is Caucasian - I found this information quite helpful for me though, as understanding problems other skins may have as a makeup artist is a good thing - right?! I would also say that when reading this book the narrator is directing to the reader but, as a makeup artist, I read as if narrator is giving me tips.
Its only for this I gave 3* - as writer uses "you should..." to reader and "I have..." when explaining an ethnic face - as a professional I think he should know better (not only Caucasians will read book).
I am a level 3 trained hairdresser and I enjoy doing bridal and occasional hair for my clients. Many clients prefer to book just one person to do both hair and make-up so I took additional classes to learn make-up, and bought several textbooks to support my learning.
This is definitely the most useful book for learning the 'how to' basics as it covers every brush stroke in explicit detail. I also picked up lots of handy tips that were not really covered in my courses. I would also recommend using YouTube and watching people like pixiwoo, Lisa Eldrige and gossmakeupartist.
Just a brilliant book. I 100% recommend it. This is without a doubt the best make-up book I've ever had… and I've had a lot!!
Buy this and enjoy!!
Although the photos have not been airbrushed such as those that appear in high-fashion magazines, there are some occassions when they could have benefitted from more diffused lighting. The makeup has settled into the fine lines on some of the model's faces and although the photos have a 'raw' style which I am usually a big fan of, for some reason it often works to the detriment of the makeup applications shown in this book.
On the whole however, that is my only criticism of this exceptional book and I would recommend that you buy it whether you are new to the industry or just love to play with your makeup at home.
