Review

"With the McCarthy's of Gansett Island, Marie Force makes you believe in the power of true love and happily ever after. Over and over again." Carly Phillips, NY Times Bestselling Author of the Serendipity series.
"No one tells a love story like Marie Force or makes characters come alive for the readers. She has an incredible ability to pull you into the story and long after you finish the book the scenes still play out in your head and your heart. The McCarthys of Gansett Island sets a very high standard for all other series." Desiree Holt, author of the popular Phoenix Agency and Naked Cowboys series"

Maddie Chester has been haunted since school by rumours, never shaking them even years later. Rumours further fuelled when Maddie turns up pregnant with no father in sight. On her way to work Maddie gets knocked off her bike by Mac, unable to work Mac fills in for Maddie so she doesn't lose her job. Maid For Love follows Mac as he inserts himself into Maddie's life, Maddie fights him every step of the way, unwilling to believe that he may actually care about her.

It's a well written, feel good story. Mac has his moments, where he acts like a typical guy and others where he is too good to be true. Maddie... what can I say about Maddie? She's had a tough life but she's not bitter because of it, her outer shell may be tougher but she's still vulnerable on the inside and I found myself willing good things to happen to her. Thomas, her 9 month old son is adorable and a nice addition to the story.

It's years since I originally read this book, back before I was reviewing, the reason I read it in the first place was because I'd read the synopsis for 'Fool for Love' and desperately wanted to read that so I decided to read the series in order. Now I have to say while I really like Marie Force I wasn't really taken with the synopsis for this book and I don't honestly think I would have read it in isolation.
This is a fairy tale romance and it's well written, as you'd expect from this author, the characters are well developed and we meet some of Mac's siblings who will star in future books of their own. I didn't like the life that Maddie had, I didn't like the bullying she's suffered or the rooms she got to clean, I liked Mac and I positively loved little Thomas, this said I was more than happy that Mac stepped up because Maddie really deserved a break.
I enjoyed this book more this time I think partly because the first time my heart wasn't really in it since I wanted to get to 'Fool' this time I just enjoyed it for itself.

Loved it! Ignore the cheesy title and cover picture! I laughed (aloud), smiled, got hot and a little teary; all the gamut of emotions I'd expect in a good read. As 'Lisa' said in her review, it will make you 'smile, swoon and sigh', Oh yes!!! LOL While it is definitely a 'love story', it's not too heavy on the schmaltz that you want to cringe, it's just right. I like a bit of romance, and there's enough of it, not overplayed or underdone.

The characters are great, all of them. The H. Mac McCarthy is everything I want: warm, hot, sensuous, great lover, great communicator, in control (yeah I like that lol), and loaded $£$. ;-))

The He. Maddie 'the Mattress' (you'll have to read the book) is just lovely; warm, kind, smart and in a world of emotional pain. Not too smart; don't like it when the He. is a 'smart a*s', or a GI Jane. Maddie is neither: she's soft and sexy.

Past wrongs have to be put right in this story; bad girl versus good guy. Mac is just the guy to do it. He returns home after spending most of his adult life building a thriving business adn having fun in Florida but finds himself at a crossroads after a health scare. He literally 'falls' for the buxom Maddie, almost instantly upon meeting her. Yes, ye sceptics, love at first sight happens.

Loads of 'talking' going on here; loved that there was so much dialogue between characters, that's the way to build a story. It made me get really into what was going on in each scene. Great interaction between the characters, with a very good plot that kept gently building as it played out. The author definitely knows how to write a great love story. For those that liked movies like: Maid in Manhattan; Serendipity; The Wedding Planner etc. this is for you.

This is the first book in a new series from Marie Force. First up is the oldest son of the McCarthy family Mac. He lives off of Gansett island where he grew up, he is returning for a forced vacation as he has been overdoing it work wise. Maddie Chester has lived on the island all of her life, with a troubled background she is not well thought of by the other inhabitants of the island. The day Mac returns to the island he steps out in front of Maddie's bike and they have an accident Maddie's is quite badly hurt, and Mac insists on taking care of her and her baby boy Thomas. The attraction between the two is instant. But Maddie holds back from Mac he is from a rich and important family on the island whereas she is dirt poor, not wanting to believe that this six foot three gorgeous guy could possibly be interested in her! This is a very romantic and tender romance. The two leads relationship is so well written, we also meet some of Mac's siblings who will have their own stories. This is a wonderfully penned story from this author and will satisfy all of the romantic at heart readers, if you are new to Marie Force may I recommend her stand alone novel Line of Scrimmage one of my top ten romances ever.

This was fabulous. I loved it. The fact it was a free download is a bonus; I would have gladly paid for such a well-written captivating story with wonderful loveable characters, romance, a descriptively beautiful setting and nice steamy moments combined with laugh-out-loud humour and heartwarming moments.

Mac McCarthy has returned home to Gansett Island. On his first day home he bumps into Maddie Chester...and I'm talking literally here as in sending her flying off her bike and her being pretty badly injured. A true gent, and upon discovering she works for his parents and is a single mum, he forces himself on her to take care of her whilst she recovers...

I loved him. He is perfect in that not so perfect way. He's strong-willed, kind, caring, stubborn and witty and his interactions with Maddie's son Thomas were touching, whilst those with his sister were hilarious. Maddie is also stubborn and feisty but she is also insecure and has trust issues, but with good reason.

It ticks every box for a great romance and has done the trick perfectly of enticing me as I intend to read the rest of the series. I certainly recommend reading and look forward to seeing how things will develop for the McCarthy family.
