‘We are incredibly fortunate to have Carlos Castaneda’s books… One can’t exaggerate the significance of what he has done.’
New York Times
From the Back Cover
Thirty years ago, Carlos Castaneda published 'The Teachings of Don Juan', the true story of his encounter with don Juan Matus, a Yaqui Indian sorcerer who guided the young anthropologist on a magical journey into another world. Castaneda learned that for us to perceive any of the worlds that exist besides out own, not only do we have to covet them but we need to have sufficient energy to seize them.
For the first time 'Magical Passes' offers the key to this energetic conditioning. Castaneda reveals a series of body positions and physical movements that enabled sorcerers, and their apprentices, to navigate through their own sorceric journeys. These movements allow the reader to achieve new levels of physical, psychic and intellectual vitality. By sharing this centuries – old wisdom, Castaneda makes it possible for readers to travel to some of these other realms, which are as real, unique, absolute and engulfing as our own world.
We are incredibly fortunate to have Carlos Castaneda's books… one can't exaggerate the significance of what he has done."
'New York Times'
"Carlos Castaneda is one of the most profound and influential thinkers of this century. His insights are paving the direction for the future evolution of human consciousness. We should all be deeply indebted to him."

The general claim of the book ,then,is that by practicing these excercises we can alter our perceptions without resorting to the use of psychotropic plants etc...
How succesful a practitioner will be in accomplishing this certainly cannot be guaranteed ,but for those looking for an excercise book with a bizzare twist, featuring routines which will still improve physical fitness , if practised regularly , this is well worth reading.
The excercises are allegedly based upon genuine American Indian shamanic traditions , and seem to represent largely a kind of 'active yoga' with similarities to Tai Chi and , at times , African tribal dances .
