About the Author
Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen, the author and illustrator of the Magic School Bus books, have collaborated for twenty years, bringing humor and true kidlike curiosity to science and learning. Booklist heralded Ms. Frizzle as "the wackiest, wisest teacher in picture books." Two MSB titles have been named School Library Journal Best Books of the Year, and they have won countless state book awards, from New York to Nebraska. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

These stories can be enjoyed by the whole family and read over and over. In our case the readers (or read-to) in the family ranged from five years old to sixty-eight, and the story inspired lively conversations among us. The wonderfully quirky story and the comments of Ms. Frizzle and her students make Magic School Bus stories unique. Enjoyment and learning are combined effortlessly, and one need not be an avid student of science to go along happily for the ride.
We already have several others in the series (we especially like the ones written by the original authors), and I'm sure we'll buy others. We've explored the ocean floor, the human body, space and other places. What's next, Ms. Frizzle? Who knows, but I hope to find out soon!

Another reviewer complained that this book (like all Magic School Bus books) is too "cluttered." I can understand why--I don't like overbusy books either. But this is different. The whole thing is well-thought-out and a lot of the fluff (in the dialogue and the class assignments) earns its way for its value in useful background info or humor.
I've read most of the Magic Tree House books to my 3-year-old and he still hasn't gotten tired of them. The books are also very meaty, more than what you would expect from a 45 page book that looks like a cartoon book; they usually take us two or three sittings to get through.
