3.0 out of 5 stars Good. 3 Nov. 2011
By M. Eastman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
It has a lot of good history from what I've cross-referenced so far. We'll see how accurate it is once I have some more experience under my belt.

The reason I'm giving it three stars is because of the preachy tone in one particular section of the book. The author suggests that individuals stop taking medication while performing certain exercises. This is something I heavily disagree with. Certain medications *may* interact, but advising people stop taking their medication without consulting their doctors is no good for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Irish focus appreciated 5 Sept. 2013
By K. Skoog - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
When I began to learn about the Celts, I quickly realized that Celtic does not mean Irish. It is a much broader region. Blamires is one of the few authors to devote himself to Ireland, which is what I study. I have learned so much from each book of his that I have read. With the Celtic Otherworld he has opened my eyes to a part of the universe that I did not know existed, much less that it is accessible. Although I am a beginner at path working, or guided meditations, I notice subtle progress each day and believe that with steady practice I will soon visit the Otherworld. This is a place not to be confused with any Christian realms such as heaven or hell. Rather it is a place where time doesn't apply and the Irish Gods and Goddesses whom I love live on.

Blamires is an excellent writer. Very knowledgeble and easy to understand, yet his books are deep. He began his magical adventures in the Western Mystery Tradition, best known through The Golden Dawn from the 1920's. This background gives him a practical teaching perspective and historical accuracy which I have not found with other writers. When I found Steve Blamires I crossed a line from Wicca to magic itself and feel that I have found a niche that is right for me, whereas Wicca was not the right fit.

4.0 out of 5 stars surprisingly good 13 Jan. 2006
By Siobhan Olaoghaire Sannes - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Previously published as "Glamoury", this book is a surprising publication since it comes from Llywelyn (who does not have a stellar reputation in regards to scholarship). As well as lore and history, Blamires presents some wonderful visualization exercise which are downright shamanic. There is a good overview of some of the beings you may meet in the Otherworld though I feel he is too cautious in recommending that you not work with some of them (I believe you can be prepared to face anything as long as you have acquainted yourself with your own Shadow Self) . The somewhat hermetic rituals are also group focused and will take a little time for deconstruction for the dedicated solitary. However, I believe this book is an important entry into Celtic magic and shamanistic practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book On Irish Celtic Myth & Lore 16 Jan. 2013
By JW - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading this book on Irish Celtic history, lore & ritual, I found it to be a good book for aquainting one with introducing one to the interest of ancient Irish Celtic beliefs, which is what I was particularly looking for. I feel it is well researched, and provides good basic knowledge of Irish Celtic ancient beliefs. I would suggest reading some of the other reviews on this book to get a fuller well-rounded opinion on the content of this book.
