Maggie's Man starts of interesting but then it just sags in the middle. The heroine is boring and the emotional background doesn't make an enticing read. In fact I was quite bored with it and ended up skipping towards the end.
I wont be ready more in the trilogy but I have just bought her latest book Fear. Now that's a good read I can recommend.
Wonderful book and highly recommend (including the delicious erotic scenes!!).

Distrayant, certes, mais prévisible....
Je préfère largement les dernières publications....
Too unbelievable to take seriously. I prefer more realism in my literature. Too much sex. I found it boring.

First Thought when Finished: I liked Maggie's Man more than I thought would and now need the rest of the series!
Story Thoughts: I am a huge fan of Lisa Gardner but not always a fan of escaped convicts do good type of stories. To say that I was torn on whether to give this one a whirl was an understatement. However, Lisa (or Alicia) did this story right. Yes there was a little bit of insta-love that had me rolling my eyes a bit but overall this was a true cat/mouse/cat game of who done it/how to prove it/how not to get caught. I thought the action was really well paced and the storyline moved along nicely. The ends were tied up but you were left wondering about Maggie's brothers whose books are coming. This was a strong beginning to a series.
Character Thoughts: I loved Maggie! She was such an usual leading lady: frumpy, unassuming, and a bit of wallflower. She had spunk but it had to be pulled out. Though when her temper flared was when she was at her best. Overall, she is going to go down as one of my favorite leading ladies because she could be 1/2 dozen women that I actually know. I also really liked Cain. He wanted to do the right thing but knew there were some things he was going to have to do in order to accomplish his goal. He was a thinking man, strategic man, and his emotions were not over the top. I really liked this different alpha hero because there are not too many like him out there. They were a great couple. Maggie's brothers were fantastic too and I can't wait for their books!
Narrated By Kate Rudd /Length 8 hrs and 21 mins
Kate Rudd does an excellent job with Cain and Maggie's voice. Her pacing, emotion, and cadence were pretty spot on as well. I wasn't a huge fan of CJ's voice (one of Maggie's brothers) so I am not sure I will listen to the next one on audio as that is his book. I could get used to it but he wasn't in this enough for me to tell.
Final Thoughts: Maggie's Man was an unexpected delight for me and I love those!
I was pretty excited to read this, but also carried many reservations about it, as Lisa Gardner is my absolute all-time favorite author, so I was excited to read more of her work, but very apprehensive about a different type of book from her, but I must say that I honestly wasn't disappointed. I have heard a few people say that they just aren't up to par with her mystery books, but I didn't have a problem with the book at all! As a matter of fact, I think I finished this book in an all-time record quick 1 day. I read some of it one evening until I fell asleep, and finished the rest the very next evening after work! It was so easy to read and hard to put down, so I enjoyed that!
I thought that the story was an intriguing story which kept me interested throughout. I had to find out what happened with Maggie and Cain! Even though Cain was the antagonist throughout the story, I couldn't help but find myself rooting for him. Some of the story even made me giggle, thinking about what was happening! I thought that Scott/Gardner did well adding in the romance as well.
Scott/Gardner sure has found the perfect career in writing because man can that woman do it all!! She is such a phenomenal writer, and I am so pleased to have found her many years ago and admire her work and writing!
Overall, I thought that it was a great, quick story, which kept my full attention from the beginning until the end, so I absolutely will not hesitate to go out and get the remaining two books of the Family Secrets series! I want to learn more about Maggie's brother's!
