Made In France, Various Artists, NOT3CD161

The running times are CD1 70.36; CD2 65.59 & CD3 69.37.

This is a welcome addition to the French collections already available on Not Now Music CDs. This new 3 CD and 75 track compilation is a charming and most entertaining set. There can be no denying that having a themed collection is a great selling point and with the abundance of public domain material available a delightful effect can be created.
This new set presents records from 1953 to 1962 (CD1); 1938 to 1962 (CD2) & 1939 to 1962. The liner notes are from Joseph Adair and sum up the content and appeal of the set.

Many well known names are included but some of the ones I am not familiar with are...

Richard Anthony, also known as Ricardo Anthony Btesh born 1938, Cairo, Egypt, is best known as a French singer. A prolific recording artiste during the 1960s and beyond. CD1/6 & CD3/17.

Yolanda Cristina Gigliotti (1933 – 1987) was best known as Dalida, the Franco-Italian singer and actress who performed and recorded in more than 10 languages including: Arabic, Italian, Greek, German, French, English, Japanese, Hebrew, Dutch and Spanish. CD1/14 & CD2/2

André Bourvil, born André Robert Raimbourg (1917 – 1970, Paris), was a French actor and singer best known for his roles in comedy films, most notably in his collaboration with Louis de Funès in the films Le Corniaud (1965) and La Grande Vadrouille (1966). For his performance in Le Corniaud, he won a Special Diploma at the 4th Moscow International Film Festival. CD1/25 & CD2/6.

Guy Béart, born 1930 is a singer and songwriter. Now in his eighties, he only makes a rare appearance on stage but many of his songs, of which Béart wrote more than 300 himself, are still being purchased by his fans. CD1/23 & CD2/24.

Jean Ferrat (1930 – 2010) was a singer-songwriter and poet. He specialized in singing poetry, particularly that of Louis Aragon. CD2/19 & CD3/20.

All told I have enjoyed my journey and with such good quality sound transfers and an amazing retail price this stands out as a collection with lots of musical offerings.
