Saw this when I was a kid and loved it, and obviously it stuck in my memory enough that I suddenly wanted to have it. In my own head this movie got mashed up with the song Monster Mash, and I spent the whole movie waiting for the song to come on. Turns out, Monster Mash is an entirely separate issue -- which I won't hold against the movie! It's certainly a bit dated and some of the humor is goofy in a fairly painful way. I mean, if you know Phyllis Diller at all, you'll know what to expect. If not, expect bad jokes. But it's a fun enough ride, interesting probably mainly to people "of a certain age" although my five year old son liked it very much too. And anti-nuclear in its own weird way. It's not the most amazing thing you've ever seen, but sure, it's worth a look, particularly if you have sentimental reasons.

What a surprise I had when I found this on Amazon! I could barely remember the film from my childhood, it had been on only a couple of times and I had no idea what it was called. Thanks to a bit of searching on the net I found the title and there it was.
A fantastic piece of puppetry, classic humour and a novel way of using well known horror characters, Mad Monster Party is a real gas! Although timeless in it's story and setting, it is definately swinging 60's all the way. A fabulous way to introduce the kids to a genre and time that they don't get to experience in todays TV. Voiced by some well known actors from the 60's it is clear to see how it influenced Tim Burton's work. If you like his films, this one is for you to see how it all began.

To sum up "Mad Monster Party" it is a groovy 1960s' animated horror musical that will appeal to both children and adults. Most of the classic movie "monsters" are in this movie in animated form - Dr. Frankenstein, Frankenstein's creature (and his female mate), Count Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Invisible Man, The Creature from The Black Lagoon and even a King Kong-style giant ape but The Phantom of The Opera is not present - perhaps he was too busy playing with his organ!

Featuring the voices of Boris Karloff, Allen Swift, Phyllis Diller and Gale Garnett, "Mad Monster Party" is for the most part an entertaining film with great animation, superb sets, references to other classic movies and a few catchy songs chucked in for good measure. The only thing that lets the film down at times is the script. The action becomes a bit too silly in places and some of the jokes are rather corny (but not as corny as my jokes).

However, the film's greatest asset is the wonderful animated characters. I particularly liked the character Yetch who is clearly modelled on one of my favourite actors, Peter Lorre, and the Dr. Frankenstein character (voiced by Boris Karloff) physically resembles Boris himself and I must say that Francesca (voiced by Gale Garnett) is quite possibly the most attractive piece of modelling clay I have ever seen! A special mention must also be given to Allen Swift who provides the voices for lots of different characters in this film. You really cannot tell that it is the same actor doing all these voices.

This DVD version unfortunately does not contain any extras (apart from scene selection) but for anyone in their forties or older who has fond memories of watching this when they were a kid then this DVD is definitely worth buying.

When I was a nipper, I was fascinated by all the classic universal monsters and their mythology (unlike the jaded kids of today - downloading saw) so it was a dream come true to find an animated film with them ALL in. And what a film - great story, groovy tunes, terrific script, the 'Ledge' B. Karloff, and the sexiest female interest since Jessica Rabbit. But the real treat is the effort put into the animation, to make it extra special (no Hanna-Barbara corners were cut here) - the bubble scene is case in point. They 1st had to create a life-like looking glass bubble, float it effectively and then make it pop into a disolve to the next scene. This would take 5 minutes with todays Computer generation, but then (40 years ago) it all had to be done with chicken wire, sticky back plastic and ancient Bolex camera's! Masterful, from the makers of that other imaginative shard of most peoples memory - flight of the dragons.

This was bought as a christmas gift for my mum. She was very pleased with it and it worked well all through the film. I recommend this to anyone who is interested in the older films from way back when and with children of 10 years plus. This was a classic film that we all used to watch as children. A brilliant gift for the parents.

I bought this item for my son,( who incidentally is 33 years old ) for christmas. His little face was a picture, he has always longed for this classic piece of animation, it puts all its modern counterparts in the shade. this shows no signs of age, it was always ahead of its time, an absolute classic , buy,it buy it, buy it !
