(Don't be fooled by my name - I'm MadCatCarter everywhere on the net before I'd even heard of MadCatz and I've no affiliation with the MadCatz company or their affiliates). I bought the R.A.T. 8. If you want the fully customisable ergonomic adjustability, this RAT is the one. I was an early adopter to the first RAT mice, had a rat 5 ( i think) years ago. I had problems understanding the horizontal wheel and how to assign commands to it at the time and ended up having it replaced with a corsair M65. I always missed the shape and feel of the RAT along with the button layout; the M65 just didn't fill my hand atall, had less buttons and in more awkward places. As a result would frequently get nerve pain in my wrist... but at the time MadCatz hadn't included automatic profile switching in the mouse software and I wasn't prepared to go back after enjoying the time-saving affect that automatic profile switching offered. Fast forward to now - the new range of RAT mice from MadCatz include that feature. Not only that but they have made the functions of the software much easier to use and transparent (assigning keys and macro commands). I love it, and I love the feeling of my entire hand being supported by the mouse, adding the pinkie rest and adjusting the thumb rest basically give you full range. You'd have to have monsterous ham-fists for this to be inadequate (this is coming from someone with big hands that often are too big for large gloves etc..)... There might well be better mice out there - but I don't know of them.

Ahhhh, love Mad Catz stuff and this is no exception, great build quality and very comfortable to use.
LED`s are a class touch and can be customised to suit.

The Rat 8 is a very nice looking mouse, but unfortunately with a few niggles and one MAJOR flaw, and what made me return it, the switches are so sensitive that even lightly resting your finger over the left or especially the right mouse button will cause it to click, so unless you are the type of person that hovers their fingers over the buttons you are going to be clicking stuff when you dont want to, which is very annoying if you are ingame let alone just using it to navigate webpages or desktop.

The black rubberized material on the buttons is a total finger grease magnet and very hard to keep clean, and from past experience this coating wont last long before it wears or becomes unbearbly sticky as it breaks down.

There is also lots of light bleed around the mouse, and through gaps in the mouse so much so that I had to turn off the lighting area by the next to useless side scroll wheel, not a major issue, but when you are paying this much for a mouse you expect the quality to be spot on.

The drag and drop software is a neat idea but in practice is a garbled mess, trying to find the function to assign to a button is an exercise in frustration, the software also looks very amatuerish compared to others like Logitech or Corsair.

The pinky rest, while a great idea, doesnt work as its not adjustable so therefore will only fit one size of hand, leading to another gripe, why supply 3 palm rests, and 3 side pieces when surely it would be better to have one palm rest and side piece and make it adjustable on the mouse. The left thumb rest can be adjusted in and out or forward and backward but the overly thick cable that connects to the buttons prevents full adjustment.

Excellent I like the ability to customise the mouse to the program in use, be it a game or video editing software.

I love Mad Catz mice and this is no exception. I would like some more weight to be added but you can do this with extra weight rings. Other than that its perfect for gaming!

Arrived safe and well. Although I am not a gamer find it easy to use the various buttons for my 3D [blender] interests. Nice to own.
