Buyer Beware:

We bought this Techno XT and all was well. One of the main reasons we purchased it was price and the fact it had a Lifetime Sovereign Warranty.

Normal exclusions applied (which I agreed were fair)
1. Had to be used by the owner from new [check]
2. For own children [check]
3. Didn't cover wear and tear on the fabric etc [fair enough]
4. Had to be registered within 45 days [check]

Car is our primary source of transport - and we only used the buggy for strolling around in shopping centres at the weekend - so it was not heavily used.

A little after a year, when crossing a carpark - the axel and the bar came loose. Apart from being dangerous, it was really worrying. Not to panic - McLaren Sovereign Warranty! I made the necessary arrangements to get it to an approved repairer, Babykins Glasgow. [This took 3 weeks to get repaired but I can live with that]

7 Months later, when we were in Paris just after crossing the road the SAME bar, disconnect exactly as previously. I had to buy a spanner to put the nut back on as a make-shift job until we got back to the UK.

Sent it in to the nearest repairer - this time Babykins had been bought over by Glasgow Pram Mart - and they were now our authorised repairer. They were closer, so this seemed good. I explained at the time that it had broken in the same place and that I would be seeking a replacement as it seemed unsafe.

Shortly afterwards I got the same buggy back, but no contact from Maclaren. I wrote a strongly worded letter expressing my disappointment and worry about our buggy.

The only reply I got back was next to useless, without examining the buggy all they said was "We spoke to Prammart, and they said it was accidental damage".

We have had this pushchair for just over 2 years - since our son was a baby - and I cannot wait to be shot of it. I have no idea why this gets good reviews because it is simply appalling. It came with no instructions for how to operate it and it is not at all intuitive. The brakes stopped working within the first six months. The seat mechanism broke within a similar period of time so that it cannot be put up to its highest setting. The straps are a huge hastle to adjust. It's hard to clean. The wheels are now so wobbly they look like they are about to come off. The handles have always been wobbly. The basket is far too small to be of use. When we took it back to Mothercare for repair Mcaclaren refused to fix the brakes, but did mend the seat mechanism, but that broke again a couple of months later. After about 20 months of having a pushchair without any brakes I shall be delighted to get rid of it. I shall NEVER buy a Maclaren again - and shall be sure to advise others not to as well. Avoid, avoid, avoid! £200 or more is a lot of money to pay for something that doesn't work - and - as we found - the 2 year guarantee is worthless.

we have loved this buggy; it is hard to find any fault with it at all (ours has withstood a fair pummelling). It is lightweight and well-balanced for slinging in the boot even after a c-section, compact to store, easy to manouver and suitable from birth so is the only buggy you need from 0 to 3ish. It is easy to collapse and set up once you get the hang of it and it has remained fairly smart. The extendable handles have been invaluable and they are also a good shape to accomodate four bags of shopping (provided your child is heavy enough to counterbalance the load). The under-buggy storage is a little mean but will fit 4l milk, and a couple of melons.

My only caveat is the obvious one: if you want to spend all your walks looking at your child, this isn't for you as it is forward-facing.

In summary, i am surprised there aren't more rave reviews!!

I brought this for my son I only had it a few weeks the rubber handles started to crumble into bits then the locking system went I sent it back an they was so rude with me they said there was nothing wrong with the handles even the girl who worked in mothercare noticed this issue they fixed the locking system but tried to pull a fast one an say it's wear an tear but only had it a few months also the hood broke on it they replaced it but took a month an I landed up with a replacement pushchair from mothercare which I refused to use has it was filthy so stressful never again supposed to be best pushchair dealers I personally think not out for your money an not helpful if you do get a faulty buggy push the blame on you b careful
