Was worried about other adverse comments on thin paper. However this "Improved Paper" version is great. I can see why they tried very thin paper:- there is such a HUGE content of information. All-in, the book is A4 size and some 2,800 pages 75mm thick. Immense piece of work.

I have used this publication over many years and it is a mine of carefully worded
technical information. Although it is a reference work you will find yourself
reading it to educate yourself. Probably not worth updating every year though.

I just ordered and received my copy today (15/08/14), it was not the improved paper edition, it’s true that you can see through the paper to the following pages. I returned it for refund

The Machinery's Handbook has been frequently referred to as the Machinists Bible for as long as I can remember. It contains an incredible wealth of information that everyone in the mechanical trades will immediately appreciate.
Detailed information about practically any mechanical problem, ranging from the basic lever and wheel, right through to rapid prototyping. At this point I can honestly say, that I have always found the information I needed in less than 4 minutes. Exact, detailed information.
The only area that I found the book lacking in, is the exclusion of European standards. For instance DIN reference numbers, but as the world is heading toward ISO9000 the old reference numbers are becoming obsolete in any case.
It's price of $80.00 may seem steep, but in comparison to the other works out there, it is reasonable. All in all, if you work in the mechanical trades, you cannot afford to pass up this book.

As a professional mechanical designer, I have found this handbook very reliable reference. Anybody involved in professional mechanical engineering should have this or have access to it in order to avoid misunderstandings.

This is just an outstanding book and an essential companion for any engineer / designer (proper desiger, not the arty, styly type that have hyjacked the title). As with all reference books it is expensive but in this case, worth every penny!

This is a superb reference tool; I have borrowed my colleague's edition many times, but it should be a must on the desk of every engineer.
This was the 22nd edition (5th printing) from 1984. I can't see how anything will have changed since, apart from adding information. I have seen new editions of this on sale for £100 or more, but I couldn't quite justify that, but £45 for this was just fine.

This edition was printed in 1984 however I can't think of anything missed out and there is a mixture of both imperial and metric units.
