The book was generally well-written. I found only a couple of minor errors. For one thing, they did not know about medical sterilization in 1781. That did not come about until after the Civil War. The grammatical error, "between he and Sarah," also stood out. For a debut novel, however, this one was very good. Bravo!
Dreya while walking her beloved dog notices Lucian who is blinded temporarily due to an explosion on his ship. Dreya takes him back to her keep and cares for him. At first I enjoyed the verbal bantering and tension sexual or otherwise between Dreya and Lucian but as the book progressed the bantering did get a little old. Their relationship seemed cold most of the time and hot with so many ups and downs the roller-coaster effect was leaving me a little dizzy that I really couldn’t see Dreya and Lucian having a long-term loving relationship. There sure would be a lot of fighting and misery in that marriage that maybe they should have just parted ways remained indifferent companions or as Lucian suggested maybe Dreya should have taken him up on his offer to kill him. The one thing great about the book was even though there were no gratuitous explicit descriptions of sex which I really liked the book wasn’t lacking in passionate encounters or kissing however. That I wouldn’t feel embarrassed to have older teens or grandmothers read this book. Despite all of this I still rated the book four stars and will get more books from Ms. Julian.
I'll come back and edit when done if I think of it. So far the book is a disappointment. I picked it up based on reviews here and feel others should be forewarned.
