This indeed must be one of the cheapest and best buys I have made on amazon. I received this item today.
For £5.99 including delivery, you are getting much more than you paid for. Not only does it come with the nice, cool, black aluminium Magnesium alloy casing, but also with a leather casing, usb cables, screws (And screwdriver) and driver CD.
The product works perfectly. I have tried it on a USB2 and USB1.1 connection and works like a charm. However, I have tried it on a USB2 cardbus but unfortuanetly it did not work on that. I do not know the reason why, because the ports are working perfectly. And as stated earlier, the USB 1.1 ports on this same laptop, the harddrive works perfectly.
I actually have two problems, albeit small, with the product. One is the USB cable. The USB cables it comes with is a 3 of the same USB connection. Basically one USB connection is connected to the caddy, and the other two into your laptop/computer. This means it takes up 2 USB ports. This may not be that much of a problem for some, I mean these days computers come with several USB ports. However, the problem is in the replacement of the USB cable in the event of loss or failure. Are "3-way USB" connection much easier to come by than say a mini-USB to USB?? And do people have them lying around in the case you forgot yours?
The second problem is the lack of manuals. The product doesn't come with any manuals at all. However, it is not rocket science in putting the stuff together, however, finding your way thru the driver CD certainly is for newbies. The driver CD at first look, is full of folders with names/numbers that make no sense (most likely of model numbers). You would need to explore each folder if you need something your looking for. However, on my Windows XP, it worked perfectly without drivers, but on older operating systems this may not be the case. The drivers are for Win OS's only.
And finally, because i'm feeling picky, I would have prefered the screw colour to be black rather than silver so to match the casing. But heck, we can't have it all :)
So to conclude: Certainly a good buy, and I would definetly recommend it to others.
