True account of the feelings of photographer Carl Maydans who could not forget what he had seen, felt, and been a part of even after he had recorded it with his camera. A staff photographer for 'Life' since its inception, he witnessed and recorded the history of our times. The Finns crushed by the Russians in the arctic war of 1940; France collapsing in shame before the Germans; China in 1941 while the Japanese tried to capture that country and where Carl himself was captured by the Japanese. He returned with the American Forces to liberate his own prison camp and photographed them when they took the surrender aboard the U.S.S. Missouri and shared their experiences for four years when they occupied Japan.
