In the 13 plus years Drew has worked in IT, his primary focus has always been on the SMB client base, with the majority being based on the Microsoft SBS product range. Drew divides his passion equally between the SMB client base and the Microsoft technologies that support these clients.

Robert has a degree in Electrical Engineering as well as Masters of Business Administration. He is also a Small Business Specialist and Microsoft Certified SharePoint Professional. In 2012 he was awarded Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award for his contributions to the Office 365 product. He also develops and presents technology courses on a regular basis on topics including SharePoint and Office 365. Robert is committed to a process of on-going business and technical education to continue developing the skills required to assist clients with their business challenges.

Format: Paperback
The exam appears easy, at least judging by the narrative of this book. The amount of material to be covered is relatively skimpy. Not just as suggested by the number of pages in the book, but also by the many screen shots that take up much room. Not that these are unnecessary, mind you. The figures do help the reader quickly grasp many concepts, as well as offer practical guidance about the options available at the graphical user interface level.

As a practical matter, it should not take you very long to go through this book, assuming that you've already dealt with the material before. The book seems best suited as a recap of your existing knowledge and experience.

The book can also be used to quickly find key changes to massive software packages like SharePoint. For that one in particular, there is a nice summary of how to use it, with its main features that many find handy. Another example is a chapter devoted to being the sysadmin of a small network (usually in a small company) of users, personal computers and printers. This particular chapter walks you rapidly through the common administrative tasks, like creating a user account or defining a group of users and the permissions of that group. To be sure, this is covered more comprehensively elsewhere. But the brevity of the treatment in this book suffices to cover your most common sysadmin duties.

Having read the book I think it's a title that's worth grabbing a copy of if you work with SBS 2011, regardless of any plans you may have of actually taking the exam.

There are six main chapters covering everything from setup and migration, server management to working with the premium add-on and each chapter has bite sized descriptions of all the tasks involved with some test questions to make sure you've taken it all in.

It doesn't go into massive amounts of technical detail, it is supposed to be a study guide after all but this is what makes it a great quick reference guide! That said the amount of areas it covers are numerous so it's very comprehensive and from a study guide perspective it provides everything you'd need to pass the exam.

It's easy to follow, makes good use of screenshots and the bite sized nature of each task description makes it really easy to dip in and out of.

HASH(0x94171ea0) out of 5 stars A great way to help get you through the exam 7 Aug. 2012
By Wayne R. Small - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
The book starts off with an overview of SBS from the beginning through to the 2011 Standard Edition and also includes a brief overview of the SBSC community. The rest of the book is laid out with the information you need on a chapter by chapter basis along with some test questions that are similar to those you will see in the exam itself. All in all, this is a pretty well put together guide on how to pass the 70-169 exam. I'd recommend it if you don't do SBS on a regular basis and want to ensure that you are well equipped to sit the 70-169 exam. Heck - it's even good if you don't plan to sit the exam as it exposes a few hard earned real world points of experience as well.

Despite the fact that Microsoft recommended I take this test, they no longer actually OFFER this test. Don't buy this book, since the test it prepares you for no longer exists.

I just installed Windows SBS and this is a good guide. Is a pity that Windows essentials is not treated as a product in this book... just a reference and in my case if I had more information, I wouldn't buy it because its low specs.

Basic test guide book. Ok for a reference and guide for the test. Make sure you're familiar with SBS2008 also.
